Trey Gowdy: Benghazi report will be out before conventions
MSNBC ^ | 20 May 2016 | Matthew Kitchen

It’s been nearly four years since a September 11, 2012, raid on the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, left four U.S. citizens dead, including an ambassador, and more than two years since the House of Representatives formed a special committee to investigate the attack. The House’s report on the events is coming soon – very soon.

It just might not be the whole report.

In an interview with Chuck Todd on “MTP Daily” Friday, committee chair Rep. Trey Gowdy, a Republican from South Carolina, said he plans to release the much sought-after draft in June.

“We’re going to get the report out – it will be in the next month,” Gowdy said, “and then I’ll let the reader know: This is what we’re missing, these are the agencies that haven’t produced it to us, and if witnesses come forward after the publication of our report, I’ll let the readers know that.”

Gowdy admitted that for “personal and professional reasons,” he would have rather the report come out last summer, but said he agreed with Todd that the committee owes it to voters to release it before the Republican and Democratic national conventions this summer, when the parties will meet to declare presidential tickets and shore up current and future agendas.

The delay, Gowdy said, was due to his committee’s lack of access to necessary documents and witnesses relevant to the investigation.

Democrats instead see the delay as a strategic maneuver to discredit Hillary Clinton, secretary of state at the time of the attacks, who is seen by Republicans “as the official who should ultimately be held responsible for the failures in Benghazi,” according to the Washington Post. Clinton was considered the strongest contender for the presidential nomination when the committee was originally formed in 2014

I think the ultimate death blow on der Hildebeast’s campaign should come after the Democrat convention when there is no chance they can pull another candidate out of the hat. Their only option would be to go with Bernie Sanders. That would be an automatic win for Trump. If Gowdy has the goods on der Hildebeast, he had better have all of his ducks in a row at the opportune time—after the Democrats nominate the Beast. Then the Democrats will have dug their own grave.

Gowdy has been a disappointment. All mouth, no action.

Not like he had absolute power to force the issue along. I believe he got a bit tired and jaded fighting the uphill battle.

Releasing this report at this particular time may be the best we can hope for - for now. It certainly has to give Hillary and the Dems a bit of a pucker effect.....

GO TRUMP!!!!

I’m glad Gowdy support Trum but I still don’t trust him. He has been consisitent in claiming that the regime wont let him have the info he needs.Look for a document dump the weekend before its due to be put out.

I agree with you. In this age of instant gratification we just don’t have the patience to wait things out. Good things take time.

It is going to be a Milquetoast approach....everything we already know set out as issues with the comment we could not get the central issue due to lack of access....which we refused to pursue, which will not be said. IOW, we let the admin get away with obstruction but dared not stab the emperor.

Will this “prelim report” be issued to the public? My guess is they will issue to Gov only and let everyone speculate. If anything is really released I will be both happy and shocked. 4 years for a report. $hit $andwich for the citizens.

>,,,,we just don’t have the patience to wait things out.

Wait things out? The ONLY time the ‘wheels of Justice’ grind-on is when it involves govt; everybody else, it’s a ‘fair and speedy trial’ w/ the full-force of govt behind the effort.

So, long long do we wait for F&F? IRS? How many more “Please, pretty please” requests have to go out? Sure as hell haven’t used the power of Congress in any way, shape, matter or form!

Oh, I know, it’s an election year, so *NOW* expect some red-meat; they’ve got to the mail-room flooding for those donations. “Look what I/we’ve *done*. But, we need more $$ to go further...”

Instant gratification my @ss.

We shouldn’t worry about the pardon. Hillary is going to skate anyway. She still stole $Billions. The point is to get rid of her for the election. Who cares who else runs. Trump is just warming up.

Both reports should have been out over a year ago or more.

but said he agreed with Todd that the committee owes it to voters to release it before the Republican and Democratic national conventions this summer

I'm sorry, that's ridiculous.

The investigative power of Congress has to do with the need for legislation, and APPROPRIATE oversight of the Executive agencies created by it. Congress is not a Star Chamber, and investigations by committees should be disclosed, if necessary, when they are done, not on a political calendar.

Gowdy would be a big help in sending Hillary up River

Why do you say that?

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The GOP effort to make political hay out of "Benghazi" has been pathetic, because of their cowardice and incompetence. The constant repetition on this site and elsewhere about "crimes" by officials of the government on September 11, 2012 are misguided bluster.

The only "crime" that night was the high crime or misdemeanor of not intervening to protect our personnel. This was NOT a violation of the US Code, and it cannot be dealt with by indictment by a Grand Jury and prosecution in Federal Court.

A decision to commit US forces to urban combat is entirely and properly within the authority of the Commander in Chief of the Army and the Navy. If Barack Obama's decision to withhold those forces was a high crime or misdemeanor, then the Congress should have impeached him and removed him from office.

But they did not do that. They didn't even try.

Instead, they set up a giant fundraising and PR operation under Trey Gowdy to constantly tickle conservatives' passions for the flag and the nation, while "investigating" nothing proper to their jurisdiction and doing less.

The idea that "Benghazi" is going to play a role in the 2016 election is just the last gasp of an incompetent and corrupt GOP.

His AG will take care of federal charges

Federal charges of WHAT?

Being anti-American scumbags is not a Federal crime.

Howdy knows if charges are brought before Obama is out of office O will pardon her

King Obongo will give her a preemptive pardon, just in case she is indicted after he leaves office.
