A new Washington Post poll found that 90 percent of Native Americans aren't offended by the Washington Redskins' nickname and an overwhelming majority consider it an unimportant issue.

But Harry Reid and Fauxahontas are bothered....their knickers are in a twist
I wonder what they think of a WASP like Warren pretending to be N. Indian so she can get affirmative action.
Fauxahontas is a fake phony fraud. As Trump says A GOOFUS.
Too bad....
“...not bothered by the “fighting Irish...”
Exactly! or Celtic warriors - My husband’s high school football team was the Gaels.
These types of team names are compliments implying superior strength and fighting abilities, etc. I never understood why Native Americans would consider teams named for them as insults and it turns out (unsurprisingly) that they actually don’t!
This attorney sure sounds like a lib. But does this statement mean she doesn't accept gender self-identification either?
Something I learned way back was, that to us, the most frightful words to hear were; "we're from the government and we're here to help you". Not those exact words but the meaning is the same.
This sums up why the gub'mint despises A.I.'s. In the 70's, the Left really hated us - just didn't fit into that box that they had made for us...
Which proves again that these useless catfights from the left are beatable by simply being vigilant.
It is usually only a small percent (even as low as 1 single person) who complain and are offended and demand political correctness.
When actually, publicly confronted, they back down.
If not confronted, they consider they have won another small battle, and they prepare for the next one. They basically become a majority of one.
It is the name of Washington as in D.C. that is an abomination.
I recently asked a Navajo friend in Arizona what he thinks about the Washington Redskins. He said, “The Navajo Nation suffers from unemployment and poverty rates of over 40%. The last thing I give a rat’s ass about is the name of a football team in Washington.”
I think that sports teams are missing a bet by not contracting with Indian tribes for non-ceremonial and non-sacred art, slogans, even cheers.
That is, the tribes artists could create a logo, maybe using tribal artistic motifs, use words from their language as analogs to typical team names, provide lots of copyrighted artwork as decor for the team, etc. In exchange, the tribe and its artists are paid, and maybe there are some seats set aside for the tribe for home games.
This would make the team relatively bulletproof against these liberal racist Nasty Nellies.
To their credit, Florida State actually worked with the Seminole Tribe to design their logo and Chief Osceola’s outfit.
Oh man, I just said something nice about FSU, I think I need a shower.
It’s not about indians. It’s about left wing idiots who hate this country and are trying to get us all to bow down in abject apology.
It bothers liberals though and that’s all that matters.
Mostly.
I'll add that this so-called 10% whose feelings must be considered is a much larger number than the truly transgendered population. But, in both cases, a much larger percentage of the population must be told how to think and how to act.
It’s been many years, but there was a local news broadcast from a San Francisco airport that got shown back east.
A very serious female reporter asked an English speaking Chinese lady from Singapore what she thought of the controversial practice of using the term “Oriental” rather than “Asian” when referring to a person.
The lady from Singapore had no clue it was considered controversial, and said so. Furthermore the Chinese lady said she, and everyone she knew, referred to themselves as Oriental when speaking English.
She also was emphatic she did not want to be referred to as “Asian”. From her tone she clearly thought it was an insult.
Just another example of politically correct elites forcing their views on others.
I think a college team has already started down that path— IIRC the Fighting Sioux of UND have a deal with the tribe to use their name.
In British English (not American English), Asian may refer more towards Pakistanis and Indians rather than Chinese.
Do you know what Indians prefer to call each other these days? - “Skins”
