The FR Canteen is Free Republic's longest running daily thread
specifically designed to provide entertainment and moral support for the military.
The doors have been open since Oct 7 2001,
the day of the start of the war in Afghanistan.
We are indebted to you for your sacrifices for our Freedom.
That’s my favorite also.
You most fear “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”
This episode reminds us that the fear of thing is often worse than the thing itself. Neighbors turn on each other as a cloud of paranoia hangs over a small town. Why would aliens waste energy invading our planet when they could just let us tear each other apart?

For those road warriors who traveled the west late at night .
We had 80ish here today, just did my grocery shopping and now hanging out.
Son's coming over for breakfast in the morning and then we'll hang out for awhile.
Wassup today with you?
I’ll play!
I don’t know the names - but one of my favorites is the little girl who was raised to be telepathic and then was “cured” of it. Her name was “Ilsa.”
Another is the one with the woman who had had cosmetic surgery to try to make her more beautiful. The docs and nurses were all masked and were unwrapping her bandages and when they were done, the doc says “NO CHANGE!” She was as ugly as ever.... but the masks came off the medical team and they (to our eyes) were monsters while the “ugly” patient was someone we would consider gorgeous.
I also like the one with the nanny who was a robot who looked and acted like a very warm and wise cuddly older lady.
There are others...
Twilight Zone had so many great episodes, it’s hard to say just one is my favorite, and they’re fun to watch in reruns too!
What?
What?
Ooo...I do remember that one!
My favorite was “Once Upon a Time” with Buster Keaton as a time traveler. The part of the episode set in 1890 was done as a silent movie.
Ohhhhhhhhhh! I like that one too!
I don’t remember that one...thank GOODNESS! I’d have been the same...afraid of my very walls!
The Quiz had my answer as “The Monsters are due on Maple Street” but I disagree.
My answer would have been either “Time Enough at Last” or “The Obsolete Man”. With the world like it is, I can see both scenarios coming to pass.
Ironically, when I bought a box of “The Twilight Zone” trading cards (1st one of 4), I got both the Shatner - “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” card and a Bill Mumy card.
Mumy was scary as hell in his episode but a nice guy in person (unless you piss him off and gives you that finger).
Oops, sorry! I didnt notice there was a quiz.

I didn’t either.
We almost hit 80 degrees this afternoon and it was soooooo nice after dealing with mid-60s for a few days.
I had to make a quick run to the vet with Darla since she hasn’t wanted to eat for a few days. I’ve had to force-feed her and she just wasn’t getting her appetitie back. She got a B-12 shot and that should do the trick. If not, she goes back for some testing.
She’s done this before and the shot usually works. She’s old (today’s her 16th birthday) and these things happen when they get up in years.
Sounds like you have a good time to look forward to tomorrow!
