Our overriding mission on Free Republic is to preserve, protect and defend (conserve) God, family, country--and all that that entails (refer to the Declaration, Constitution, and our Judeo-Christian American heritage for details).
Our most immediate task we must undertake at this time is keep corrupt, godless, treasonous, America-hating communists like Hillary Clinton out of power.
Our very survival as a free nation depends upon it.
That means FR is going all in to defeat Hillary/Bernie, et al, by supporting our America-first nominee Donald Trump to the hilt.
Very sorry if your favorite candidate did not win the nomination and sorry if you cannot understand or agree with our mission, but those who can't live with our immediate goal need to either keep it to themselves or sit it out (from FR) for the duration. Anti-Trump activities and NeverTrump trolling and recruiting efforts are not appreciated and are unwelcome on FR.
The time for fighting about who may be best on our side for the job is over. It's now time to consolidate and concentrate our firepower against our common enemy.

Thank you for providing a forum where we may hash out issues vital to the importance of our lives and country. We have and are passing through another difficult period where those approaches to issues and the best person to represent us moving forward as president has been debated. The choice has been made and that person is Donald Trump.
It is time we pull together and work for his election to defeat the people who want to remove God from all aspects of public and I dare say private lives.
These forces have worked to destroy the family and community units. They seek a borderless world where only the governing elite hold sway and the rest of us are merely selfs working for the elite.
While we may have disagreed on the best person to lead us in the next phase of this government fight we all as freepers have love of God, family and nation in common. Time to work together as one force to save what we can and reverse the effects if possible.

I would say that one Limbaugh, David, was not subtle about backing Cruz; but I would maintain that Rush has not been backing Cruz as much as he has been backing, or currying, Cruz VOTERS. And, given his place in the conservative zeitgeist, I think that it is important that he do so.
Rush has known all along, just like I have known, that Cruz is unelectable in the America of 2016 — that his thrust and his following are just too narrow; he also knows that Trump will be the winner with all the steam he has generated. But Rush views his job in this regard as being one who can, and will, cultivate enough unity among our disparate elements of conservatism to defeat liberalism, especially in this presidential cycle. He cannot do that by playing one over against the other.
No, he is coaching Trump to be a bit more classically conservative, while knowing that Trump will win. Rush is personally close to Trump, as most people are aware. At the same time, he is giving props to Cruz and, especially, Cruz’s followers.
In the end, Rush has and will play a major role in the process, unlike the shills: Levin and Beck and Hewitt, to name just a few. Which is why Rush has to be subtle about it, even coy.
"Classic" Conservatism is how we got into this globalist mess.
Rush pushed NAFTA big time, back when Perot was running. I remember it well. We thought Rush knew just about everything in those days, and never doubted him for a moment. It’s free trade according to “conservatives” no matter how devastating it is to the country. If you haven’t heard Rush fawning all over Cruz these past weeks and months, you must not be listening to his show. He didn’t honestly endorse him like Levin and Glenn, he pretends to be neutral. After yesterday’s program, a lot of us are convinced he is out to destroy Trump.
Trump and his people listen to Jeff Kuhner’s show. He is on at the same time and Kuhner is not only all in for Trump, he also says he will destroy Hillary. Trump is listening! Kuhner is also mentioning Free Republic every day and says he loves the site and has been reading it for years! Get off Rush!
And this is why a long time Freeper left a couple years ago. Suppression of free speech is not a Conservative principle. Maybe I’ll check back in a couple more years.

It’s pretty much the same thing. And why not also court Trump voters, many of which are very conservative but sick of politicians.

That would be a good thing and I hope Trump is listening.
But Rush has sounded too angry while also being quite dismissive of the many, many Trump supporters that have called him for me to believe he has remained neutral. He is/was emotionally invested in Cruz. It’s as close to an endorsement as he’s ever gotten. But I’m glad he didn’t go hardcore like Beck and Levine, as you pointed also out.
