The Daily 202: West Virginia results show disaffection, not ideology, fuels Sanders and Trump
Washungton Post ^ | May 11, 2016 | James Hohmann

Americans, collectively, are not as angry as watching cable TV would lead you to believe. But many poorer, less-educated folks who have been left behind in the 21st century—the ones who have seen their wages stagnate, their opportunities for upward mobility disappear and their life expectancies shorten—are looking to disrupt a status quo that has not worked for them.

That’s what Sanders and Trump are both promising to do.

And that’s the main reason why Bernie beat Hillary Clinton in yesterday’s West Virginia Democratic primary by 15.4 points. He carried every single county in the Mountaineer State, which by every metric has been left behind. (Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, won 77 percent of the vote in the uncontested GOP primary.)

It isn't just "the poor, less educated people" supporting Trump.

Polls showed that people of all education and financial level support him.

But it is true that people are tired of the status quo and want a leader, who will lead, not succumb to political correctness.

Trump is such a leader and that is why he will win and become president.

Anything other than “she sucks as a candidate and people just don’t like her”.

I know. The propaganda that says Trump supporters are uneducated makes me furious. They are trying to shame people into not supporting him. I know a lot of college graduates and successful people that are voting for Trump. I see people from all walks of life supporting Trump.

We are seeing this election is about nationalism, nativism, and producerism and is against globalism, crony-capitalism and self-entitled aristocracy.

People are sick of RINOs, cheap-labor-express, and limousine liberals.

I have a Master's degree and 202 college credits and I'm voting for Trump.

I can't imagine Hillary's anti-coal position played a major role /sarc

Trump has led every contender among college educated. Yet the drive-bys continue to push the lie that it’s the “uneducated.”

I always find it ironic that dems always say the “uneducated” are voting for (insert conservative here). Last time I checked, the inner cities like Chicago and Philadelphia which have high school graduation rates far below 50% (and the ones that do graduate are funtionally illiterate) seem to vote for dems 100%

Translation: The status quo has worked great for all us educated rich folks. So stick with it people, don’t let your lying eyes deceive you that the country is in trouble!

The Washington Post is still reliably “Progressive”.

This is NOT an election about ideology. Anyone trying to make it one, e.g., Cruz, lose miserably.

“DUH”

The people have had enough. Trump is going to landslide this. Best case for Hillary she gets 15 states and 180ish EC votes. More realistic case Trump takes 40+ states and over 400 EC votes

I am hardly poorer or uneducated and I consider myself lucky that my wages have just kept up with inflation at best for the last 15 years as have many of my contemporaries. This isn’t just a poor or uneducated issue its the reality of the middle and upper middle classes as well

This is their meme. They are trying to portray Trump’s supporters as losers. Who wants to be thought of as a loser? Better to shut up and not be singled out as having failed.

Only it is not working. Also, and this is only secondarily important, it is not true.

In the minds of the self appointed elite, It is their conceit you are not an Ivy League educated member of the Washington ruling elite you are by default an uneducated , unsophisticated rustic from fly over country.

As such you cannot comprehend the nuances of sophisticated issues or manage your life in such an environment.

In fact, your circumstances make you not quite a fully functioning human on their plane of existence.

This is the same self serving, arrogant, entitled, smug and vaguely decadent and debauched attitude adopted by all disconnected and out of touch the real world courtiers and throne sniffers close to the seats of power of kings and dictators have assumed since the dawn of time

In their small, closed minds we rubes from fly over country are nothing more a big basket of eggs to be broken to cook the omelets of their Utopian schemes of governance and stage props in the great theater of their power games
