New York City Mayor Bill de Blasios Human Rights Commission released Friday new guidelines forcing bartenders in the city to serve pregnant mothers alcohol.
The guidelines say discriminatory stereotypes about what is in the best interest of the health of the fetus are impermissible by law.
Judgments and stereotypes about how pregnant individuals should behave, their physical capabilities and what is or is not healthy for a fetus are pervasive in our society and cannot be used as a pretext for unlawful discriminatory decisions in employment, housing, and public accommodations, the guidelines state.
The new guidelines were issued to clarify the New York City Human Rights Law, which bars discrimination on the basis of pregnancy or perceived pregnancy, according to the guidelines.
The guidelines provide examples of actions that constitute discrimination toward the pregnant, one of which is a restaurant policy that prohibits staff from serving pregnant individuals raw fish or alcohol.

So now the women can use the bar and the bar a use the city for problems to the baby from alcohol
Looks a lot like you have "use the bar" a bit too much today.
Cheers.
Sue
My original comment was that, as a matter of conscience, I would defy a law that required me as a bartender to serve alcohol to a pregnant woman. I serve people drinks that are consumed on site so I know for whom the alcohol is intended. My adopted brother has FAS and I’ve seen how it has hurt him.
Woman will do whatever ever they want to their unborn children: pay someone to kill them with saline and suck them out piece by piece or consume a beverage that damages the brain to varying degrees. I can’t stop them, but I don’t have to be party to it either. Even if it means losing my job.
Damned kindle decided use was better than sue
In most cases.. I'd agree.
My mother and my ex-husband both died of alcoholism. Wouldn’t it make sense to just outlaw alcohol altogether?
Is this a contest to see if we can get as ugly as de Blasio?
Wouldn’t “using the bar” be another way to describe “suing”?
Think that’s been tried before. Again, I’m not sure how my stating that I would defy coercion by the state means that I want to coerce all pregnant women to live by my standards. I just don’t want to be a part of hurting a child in the womb no matter the cost to me.
So did mine. No problem here, at least in my estimation. I smoke and drink too.
That’s what put the grumble in grumblegunner!
As for de Blasio, I guess this is the way he says that he ain’t Bloomberg?
De Blasio continues his never-ending dive to sink ever deeper into silliness and irrelevancy.
Fetal alcohol syndrome on the way?
So sad. It’s hard to remember, I suppose, that he started with so much against him. As I remember, all of Bing Crosby’s boys died young - they were restless drunks themselves - always quarreling and screwing themselves. No one knew what the problem was! And to think: all women have to do to avoid this is skip drinking for 9 months.
Same as the safe level of iced tea.
“More than that...who thinks it is okay to feed booze into pregnant women?”
That is up to the woman.
Period.
.
I’ve ordered a lot of things in bars, but I never even thought of asking for a pregnant woman.
Can’t have the soda, but alcohol is great?
What a dork the guy is.
