NY1 Exclusive: Former Congressman Grimm Talks Post-Prison Life
http://www.ny1.com/ ^ | May 7, 2016 | Amanda Farinacci

Former Rep. Michael Grimm has been released from prison. He spoke exclusively Friday with NY1's Amanda Farinacci just a week after his return home.

Former Rep. Michael Grimm walked out of his Staten Island home Friday, but he's not yet a free man.

Grimm was released from federal prison April 27 to serve three more weeks under house arrest.

He wears an ankle bracelet, and needed permission from his parole officer just to step outside to talk to NY1.

But to Grimm, it's all better than the seven months he just spent behind bars.

"It's been very challenging, to say the least. It's a horrible experience. I wouldn't wish it on my enemies. But it's over. I'm really glad to be putting it past me," he said.

No political affiliation mentioned in the opening paragraph; guess he was a Democrat?

Nope ... R

According to wicki ;

Michael Gerard Grimm (born February 7, 1970)[2] is an American businessman and politician who represented New York in the United States Congress from 2011 to 2015. Grimm represented New York's 13th congressional district during his first term, after which he represented New York's 11th congressional district. Both districts consisted of Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn. Grimm is a member of the Republican Party, and during his time in office was the only Republican to represent a significant portion of New York City. He is a former FBI agent, businessman, attorney, and U.S. Marine, having served in the Persian Gulf War.

On April 28, 2014, Grimm was charged by federal authorities with 20 counts of fraud, federal tax evasion, and perjury.[3] On December 23, 2014, he pleaded guilty to a single count of felony tax fraud, and "acknowledged committing perjury, hiring illegal immigrants, and committing wire fraud".[4] After initially vowing to retain his seat, Grimm announced on December 30, 2014, that he would resign from Congress effective January 5, 2015.[5] On May 5, 2015, Daniel M. Donovan, Jr. won the special election to replace Grimm. On July 17, 2015, Grimm was sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion.[6] He began his prison term on September 22, 2015 after a brief delay for medical treatments.[7]

I went no further in researching, but the charge(s) sound like a witch hunt he couldn't get out of

There’s lots of prison space for the current 535 gang members and many of the former.

7. It must not be forgotten that the members of the legislative body are to have a deep stake in the game. This is an essential point, and happily is attended with no difficulty. A sufficient number, properly disposed, can alternately legislate and speculate, and speculate and legislate, and buy and sell, and sell and buy, until a due portion of the property of their constituents has passed into their hands to give them an interest against their constituents...

Maybe because he’s from Staten Island they assumed Republican & assumed corrupt.

Thre was another one Aaaron Schock from IL who got in some trouble. He resigned.

Both of them RINOs as bad as Peter King or Lindsey Graham.

In January 2014, the FBI arrested Diana Durand[80] on charges that she had illegally donated more than $10,000 to Grimm’s 2010 campaign. Durand allegedly gave the campaign $4,800, the legal limit, but then used straw donors to donate more than $10,000 illegally. The FBI also charged Durand with lying to federal agents about the matter. Grimm denied any wrongdoing.[81] In September 2014, Durand pleaded guilty to making illegal contributions to Grimm’s 2010 campaign.[82]

The investigation, which originally focused on Grimm’s 2010 fundraising, branched out to include Grimm’s prior business dealings. On April 25, 2014, Grimm’s attorney was advised by the U.S. Attorney’s office that his client would be indicted on criminal charges related to Healthalicious.[83][84] On April 28, prosecutors unsealed a 20-count indictment charging that Grimm and others concealed over a million dollars of the restaurant’s sales and wages from both the U.S. federal government and the State of New York.[3] Grimm surrendered to the FBI that morning.[85] Grimm pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released on $400,000 bond. He told reporters that he not only had every intention of fighting the charges, but also of staying in office and running for a third term.[86]

On December 23, 2014, less than two months after winning reelection, Grimm pleaded guilty to one charge of felony tax evasion. He admitted to under-reporting Healthalicious’s revenues by over $900,000 over four years and to filing false tax returns based on that under-reported income. He also admitted to using the under-reported receipts to pay restaurant expenses, as well as to make under-the-table cash payments to employees. As part of the plea bargain, the other charges were dropped, but Grimm admitted to two of the offenses in the original indictment: knowingly employing people ineligible to work in the United States and lying in a 2013 deposition. The crimes to which he pleaded guilty carried a prison sentence of up to 30 months

That’s the crime folks - He used $225k each year for 4 years to pay illegal aliens in cash. H wasn’t charged for that however, it was for not reporting the $225k per year as revenue on his tax forms.

Naa
Doesn’t matter anymore. The media seems to have a new mission. Protect the ruling class at all cost. Both parties have morphed in to criminal enterprises. Much like the Clinton Foundation and the Mafia.

And some (mostly in the ruling class) wonder why Trump is resonating with the electorate.

So, sounds like he paid the back kitchen staff directly out of the till before counting the receipts each day. I bet a bunch of folks do it that way. Just a cost of doing business.

So far (as far as I’m concerned) both parties are just filled with corrupt politicians looking to line their pockets. How can someone like Reid, a lawyer from NV just have a few hundred K and now is a multi-millionaire? Then we have these career politicians who’ve rejected term limits ...

New York state politics are corrupt to the core. Its the Democrats and Republicans. Cuomo is about to be indicted but it won’t mean much because the Republicans are almost as bad.

"There’s lots of prison space for the current 535 gang members and many of the former."

Such prison space will only be needed briefly, until most of those 535, following their convictions for giving aid and comfort to the enemy, walk up the steps to the gallows to the cheering from the multitudes gathered to see justice carried out.

Grimm is running against Dan Donovan for his old seat. Siena poll has Grimm up 10, this despite Trump and Rudy endorsing Donovan. Grimm is attacking Donovan as not supportive enough of the President.

Grimm beat the odds and won (rather easily) in 2014 (before he resigned as part of a plea deal) when he was pegged as a loser but nominating him seems like a foolish risk. The rats are running was well-funded bald a-hole who will try to fool people into thinking he’s a patriot cause he flew choppers in Afghanistan or something, so many good people died and this jerk makes it back. Grimm would likely have major fund-raising trouble, he’s way behind. Donovan won with over 60% in the 2016 general, even carrying the Brooklyn portion of the district. The Brooklyn portion is to the district what a Muslim would condenser a big chunk of pork in their lentil soup.

Some folks don’t like being told who to vote for, hence why Grimm might be leading. But if he’s a bad bet for the general, they should stick with Donovan. NYC being without a single, sane GOP member would be bad.
