Ryan never expected Trump to lock up the nomination so quickly. He didn't think Texas Sen. Ted Cruz would drop out of the race in May. In fact, Ryan's orbit was preparing for a contested convention in Cleveland, where he is slated to serve as chairman, effectively the emcee of the Trump coronation.

There are a considerable amount of people wandering about with the delusion that had this contested convention been pulled off, that somehow Ted Cruz would emerge as the nominee. That was never going to happen. The GOPe would have reached within their own to come up with a 'unifying' candidate who could 'legitimately challenge the democrats.' And that would not have been Ted Cruz.
Thankfully, the voters saved us from a horrible, horrible mistake.
Will Trump be a horrible mistake? Compared to what, I reply. Compared to John McCain or Mitt Romney or whomever the GOPe would have placed up as the sacrificial lamb? Even if we take the worst assumptions of a Trump candidacy, and should he become president, of his time in office - they merely equal what McCain or Romney would have done.
We do not have a perfect candidate, we will likely never have a perfect candidate. But for once, it is us dealing the hand. I hope those who supported Ted Cruz can recognize and accept that and move forward to keep massive fires under Trump's feet to remind him of the direction he promised to lead us in, and to keep him from wandering too far off that path.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he advised Cruz to suspend and there is more hanky panky to come. They could not have any more continuous landslides take place.
And "they" might still get it. Trump has not passed 1237 yet, and he is going to need to get well passed 1237.
Folks......Henceforth...Paul Ryan has officially requested to change his official name, and to be called Eric Cantor II, immmediately. Please... in fair deference to Mr. Ryan’s official wishes...kindly address,, and refer to him as “ex-House-of-Representative & Speaker-of-the House, Paul Ryan...now known as, Eric Cantor II. Thank you for your understanding and acceptance, wlecome to Eric Cantor II.
In fact--and I guess this makes me sound as stupid as the "Never Trump" dolts in the Party--I was ready, this morning, to post a piece advocating Ryan as Trump's running mate, as a way to bring the Party together. My theory was two-fold: That Ryan would bring the establishment towards accepting the new dispensation; and that Trump's strong defense of traditional American values would free Ryan to return to the image he cast before he was the pathetic VP nominee in 2012.
I confess to my error to make another point. We are all capable of doing something stupid. What we must never do, is pretend that stupidity is a virtue; or that trying to rationalize stupidity can ever do more than simply compound it.
I sincerely hope that Paul Ryan will come back to the society of the rational. That is a hope, not necessarily an expectation; certainly not something anyone can rely on.

Not likely, isn’t Romney his mentor?
It was a rather unexpected departure, wasn’t it? He swore he was going all the way to Cleveland and the monies were there. His Cruz delegates were in place on the powerful RNC Rules Committee. They were conspiring to unseat entire state delegations and DQ individual delegates. There was talk about unseating Florida’s 99 delegates at the RNC meeting in Hollywood last month. What happened?
Shot fired over the bow at Papa Cruz...
BOOM!
Cruz jumped out of the race-rapido!
That story surrounding Papa Cruz was the impetus that caused Ted to suddenly quit. Wonder if we get to hear more about it. Inquiring minds...

In his role as Republican convention chairman, Ryan will be in a position to cause chaos. He could stand there and cause all manner of disruption or even openly repudiate Trump from the podium. He needs to be prevented from effectively campaiging for Hillary Clinton.
I suspect it’s not so much hanky panky as it is that he’s just hoping an asteroid will hit and wipe Trump out. Or that Trump will himself pull out for whatever reason.
The only other possibility I see is that he thinks Trump is going to get crushed in Nov and he wants to distance himself from him.
But what Trump really must avoid doing, is trying to win the dissidents by compromising his pro-America priorities. He needs to continue to stand tall, and let the expedient types accept the inevitable--if they suddenly develop the common sense to do so.
Paul Ryan is FOR TPP and open borders
How are those positions conservative?
He helped the DiC pass the ridiculous budget.
How is that conservative?
Frankly Paul, you ain’t a conservative (whether you hunt or not).
Get out now before you are Cantorized
Oh that couldn’t possibly be true because after all every tells me that Trump isn’t a conservative /s
If we had wanted Ryan’s ideas we would have elected Jeb Bush.
Trump represents THE PEOPLE not the effing elites and their ‘donors’.
Because of that Trump’s TONE will be different. And that’s WHY we Americans elected him.
Cruz supports? Hell!
THOSE are the Bush-Bush-Bush-Ryan-Pataki-Graham-Fat Boy from NJ-McCain-Romney-Rowe weenies!
And it didn’t happen
Trump beat everyone and will end up with well over the 1237. So just like every other time that others have run, Trump will be the nominee
yup
Romney used to be rational. Note “used to be.” Those who sacrificed their integrity at the alter of “political correctness,” now seem really obsessed with hatred against the one honorable man in the figurative “room.” Trump is in the process of cutting a virulent cancer out of the American psyche. The behavior of the “never Trump” crowd demonstrates how truly malignant was the growth being excsised.
If that was his thinking then maybe Ted is smarter than I give him credit for
