HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Two state lawmakers have introduced legislation that would require Pennsylvania’s high school students to have a basic understanding of American history and civics before graduating.

House Bill 1858 would require that students pass a test on 100 basic facts from the United States Citizenship Civics Test, the test all immigrants must pass when applying for U.S. citizenship.

I graduated from high school in Pennsylvania and we were required to have American History/Pennsylvania History as requirements for graduation. We also had 4 years of Phys Ed, 4 years of Health Ed, 4 years of English ... all necessary for graduation.

We learned PA history and US History. Gosh, we even had to know the names of all the guys in Kennedy's cabinet.

And, yes, we learned what a Natural Born Citizen was as an eligibility requirement for President.

Not sure when the dumbing down took place but this was PA in the early 60s.
