Trump: 'I'd have to think about' Cruz for Supreme Court
The Hill ^ | 5/2/2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Donald Trump had a tepid response when asked if he would consider GOP presidential rival Ted Cruz for the Supreme Court, should the businessman win the White House.

"I don't know, I'd have to think about it," Trump told the Daily Mail in an interview Monday.

"There's a whole question of uniting and there's a whole question as to temperament," Trump continued. "He's certainly a smart guy, but there's also a temperament issue.

"He's got a tough temperament for what we're talking about," Trump said. "You have to be a very, very smart, rational person, in my opinion, to be a justice of any kind."

Trump told The Washington Post that he plans to announce upward of a dozen judges from which he'd pick to fill Supreme Court vacancies.

Cruz, a former Texas solicitor general, has been mentioned by Republicans as a potential replacement to fill the vacant seat previously held by the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Monday described such a scenario as scary.

For his part, Cruz insisted in March that he was more focused on nominating justices to the court than becoming one.

Trump made his comments to the Mail as he and Cruz battle in Indiana heading into Tuesday's primary in the Hoosier State, a key opportunity to pick up more of the delegates needed to secure the nomination.

In this universe, Trump is the presumptive GOP nominee, and Cruz is someone who lost the race and whose political future is greatly clouded by the extremely bad reputation he earned while seeking the nomination.

Just letting you know so you can calibrate your spacetime machine to return to your own universe.

Why hello nopardons.....long time no see....I see ‘you still care’ to engage....I’ve been away as we had a death in the family and all that entails....those are always rough waters for all.

At any rate....I also see you’re still the night owl around here. Still picking fights too I see.

However since you stated in your post to me....”You refuse”....”You don’t know”....”You have less than no idea”........then why take your time posting to me? I’m sure with all the Trump supporters here you can find companionship and revelry among you’re own kind.

.....”In that case, I wish him luck”.....

It’s an election, and a seriously brutal one as we’ve seen. One thing about Cruz is he doesn’t rattle easily. The foundation he stands on is quite secure.

You are the one picking the fights; I just reply.

I'm just trying to wake you up; it's a thankless job, but someone/s need to try to get you to see reality.

Not sure what you mean by ‘this’ universe....but until we have a nominee we don’t have one. What we do have is a race in which nobody has been declared as a win....we also have a race that the media keeps moving the lines of what they are framing this race and it’s various goal posts along the way.

I’ll remain in the mode of ‘it’s not over’ until one or the other candidate is declared the winner or bows out. Neither Cruz nor Trump appears to being doing that where things stand now or in the weeks ahead.

Thank you...all are doing well considering.

I didn’t note I had addressed you but I understand the threads are open for any to respond, and with that up to the posters choice if or not to respond.

But you are correct....I cannot ‘see’ the reality you view with in this election my vision looks further ahead....under and behind what is the usual media appetite. Not saying you don’t as well....but I tend to watch the game plays rather than the players....and ‘the ball is still in play’.

Conservative vote yes. But what justice would want to associate with Ted?

Reality check:

For all practical purposes, it’s already over.

Cruz is not even in the conversation any more. Not only is his chance to win an actual zero, but he has made himself so odious to the base that even a coup at the convention won’t make him the nominee. He has only one reason to continue, and that is to enable such a coup. But he won’t be the beneficiary thereof, guaranteed.

The only question moving forward is whether one prefers Trump or an establishment-picked nominee who is guaranteed to lose to Clinton.

The facts on the ground make this a very straightforward situation, right here, right now.

You're welcome.

We may fight like cats and dogs, but death comes to us all and I do understand how much it hurts. Just make sure that you grieve.

You aren't from N.Y., I don't know which part of Pa. you're from, but I can guarantee you that your capabilities to see into the future, vis-a-vis Trump are most assuredly the nadir of probabilities.

I shan't explain WHY I understand Trump, but I do. I also look at reality straight in the face, sans the obstacle or impediment of rose colored glasses or an anti bias of others. History is prologue, but the present is as well, to the future.

That ball hasn't been in "play" for about a month!

Trump shall win Indiana tomorrow.

Cruz has pilled out of New Mexico and Oregon. KaSicko won't win either of those states.

Trump is beating Cruz by 34% in California and there is no way that Cruz wins New Jersey and West Virginia.

Yes, there is a possibility that things might change, but not to give Ted the 1237, or even within 300 or more delegates of that amount.

There shan't be a contested/brokered convention and Cruz won't get anywhere near enough to win on the second, third, or 20th ballot. Nor shall it all get thrown into Congress' lap to pick the next presidential candidate.

If, OTOH, such scenarios do TWILIGHT ZONEY come about, the GOP, as a majority political party is over, finished done. So is any candidate other than Trump! SAY HELLO TO HILLRY, BERNIE, OR WHOMEVER THE DEMS THROW OUT THERE !

Cruz’s problem is not “natural born citizen.” Cruz’s problem is CITIZEN. There’s no evidence that he is a U.S. Citizen, and increasing evidence that he’s an ILLEGAL ALIEN!

Trump’s sister is 74 or 75 years old. She’s been retired for years, and does “substitute teacher” work as a judge.

Trump made his comments about putting her on the USSC at her BIRTHDAY PARTY. Just making nice at his sister’s birthday party.

>> I don’t see why anyone owes Cruz anything at this point. <<

I don't see why Trump supporters continually think Cruz and his supporters are begging for a position being Trump's water boy. I would be delighted in Cruz didn't have his career tarnished by working for liberal Democrat Donald Trump.

It was your boy who who gave aid and comfort to a black lives matter riot and last week he attacked Trump by saying he has a problem with strong women for an attack on Hillery. Lyin’ Ted sounds much more like a Liberal Democrat than Trump.

Cruz has repeatedly shown he is not what he appears and has no discernment. He is a fringe cultist who has no business being on SCOTUS.

Like a fellow Freeper pointed out yesterday, the Cruzes are white Obamas.

Still is. It is because I am a Christian that I refuse to vote for Cruz.

What will you do when he doesn’t?

I’m not voting for Cruz for the same reason I didn’t vote for Romney. I will not vote for a cultist who abuses the name of Christ to get votes.

I understand if you stay home, that is your choice. Choices have consequences.

I ‘get’ Trump because I grew up in a family of business moguls and am a successful business woman myself (how I can afford to be in ministry). Do I expect him to follow through on everything? NO because no politician ever does. But he does have a history of keeping his word as best as he can and if he does 5 things on his platform, it is more than Cruz would do.
