Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump holds a double-digit lead over his competitors in Oregon, according to a new poll by Portland-based Hoffman Research Group.
Trump has 43 percent support in the poll, followed by Ted Cruz with 26 percent and John Kasich with just 17 percent support.
Cruz and Kasich announced last weekend a joint effort to deny Trump the nomination. As part of the strategy, Kasich would clear a path for Cruz in the Indiana primary and Cruz would back down in Oregon and New Mexico. But both candidates have walked away from the arrangement since their campaigns' announcement. Kasich still falls 9 points behind the Texas senator in Oregon, according to the poll.
The survey also found that 49 percent of Republican voters view Trump favorably and 40 percent have an unfavorable view of the front-runner. Cruz has a favorability rating of 42 percent and is viewed negatively by 37 percent of Republican voters.
Kasich is viewed positively by 34 percent and negatively by 25 percent of Republican respondents. According to the poll, 17 percent of respondents said they had never heard of Kasich.
The survey also found that 53 percent of men are supporting Trump, but just 34 percent of women. Trump also has more support among older voters and less-frequent voters.
The poll was conducted this week among 555 Republican voters and has a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.
The Oregon Republican primary will be May 17.
If that’s true than he’s got it in the bag!
Oregonians are social lefties.
Hard to see them going for a Bible-thumper like Cruz.
GO TRUMP!!!
I see that Kasich/Cruz strategy is paying off nicely.
Kasich numbers (17%) are important as, under the Cruz/Kasich, pact Kasich bailed Indiana for the “Oregon Trail”
Sorry for the typo.
Kasich numbers (17%) are important as, under the Cruz/Kasich pact, Kasich bailed Indiana for the Oregon Trail
That will be yuuuuge if it holds!
Eastern Oregon is much more conservative.
17% baby!
New Kasich ad: ‘Cruz pulled out of Oregon’
By NICK GASS 04/27/16
John Kasich’s campaign on Wednesday unveiled what it characterized as a “significant advertising buy” in Oregon ahead of the state’s May 17 primary, touting the Ohio governor as the only candidate who can stop Donald Trump and defeat Hillary Clinton in November.
“This year Oregon will play a decisive role in choosing our next president, and John Kasich is the clear choice,” the narrator says in the ad, which will run in 15-second and 30-second versions. “Ted Cruz pulled out of Oregon, and John Kasich is the only one that can stop Trump and defeat Hillary Clinton in the fall.”
It’s 17 points which is good but the system they have is proportional “Every kid gets a trophy” so the best way for Trump to go is full Delaware and crush it with over 60%.
Thanks for that info.
Ka-sick is really stupid.
Just needs to hold on to it.
In think it’s the other way around.
Portland (and Seattle) is a socialist mecca that hates anything Americana.
“Eastern Oregon is much more conservative.”
I bet Trump carries Eastern Oregon.
Trump wins ‘very conservatives’ by 33% and evangelicals two to one.
