More than half of American voters believe that the system U.S. political parties use to pick their candidates for the White House is "rigged" and more than two-thirds want to see the process changed, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The results echo complaints from Republican front-runner Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders that the system is stacked against them in favor of candidates with close ties to their parties a critique that has triggered a nationwide debate over whether the process is fair.

There is no doubt the Rat side is rigged with all the super delegates..
On the republican side it’s rigged to favor the front runner.
Hillary was quietly lining up super delegates a year ago and so started this state by state countdown with some 400 “committed” delegates.
Bodes well for an outsider who will force the system to reform. I wonder who that could be.
Of course it is, I realized that when they nominated McAmnesty after TWO amnesty attempts.
Thank you Ted, and thank you CO.
You managed to illustrate clearly what so many people have thought for years.
I knew Cruz would be good for something, even if it was just a bad example.
It’s not rigged. Each state decides the system in which it will allot its delegates. If people don’t like it, they can get off their duffs, petition their lawmakers and get the system changed to one they view as more fair.
It’s not like it’s a secret how these things work. All the candidates should know or should have known the rules of each state in which they are competing.
Personally, I prefer the system in which delegates are allotted according to congressional district rather than winner take all. That forces a candidate to compete in the entire state, rather than just the cities. I’d like the congressional district proportional approach for the Electoral College as well.
Gee, I don’t know why that would be.
How many times have we heard the popular vote is not a good idea ?
(Quite frankly, I don't know WHAT is a good idea these days)
Perhaps the government should take control of all political parties ... for the public good, of course. Maybe we could consider consolidating them. For the public good, of course.
Yup, it is rigged. The One Worlders get who they want. They are one and the same. No difference in either party. I have held my nose in every election since Ronald Reagan. He is the ONLY one in my entire adult life, and I am, let’s just say, getting Social Security and Medicare now. But, President Reagan is the ONLY president I voted for and didn’t hold my nose. They all, I mean all, made me sick to vote for. I did not vote at all for Romney. The only time in my life I never voted for a president. Romney made me sick. I voted for the other offices and moved on. I refused to vote for someone that is the same as the one I am suppose to voting against. Romney and Obama are both one and the same. Only their skin color separated them. The minds were the same. Liberals. Progressives. Commies. Socialists. They are the same. I have yet to decide if I am going to vote this election. Not much out there that really one can hope can bring the nation back. I think America has gone over the edge anyway and there is NO saving America. God is judging America and the end is in sight in my humble opinion.
It’s interesting that it took Trump just a few weeks to convince over half the country that the system is rigged.
Prior to this few people really paid any attention to the delegate system except for extreme political junkies. Now, thanks to the interest Trump has generated, and his hammering the “rigged” system, he has persuaded the majority. Trump can, and will win, because he will persuade everyone into thinking that Clinton is crooked (which she is in spades), but he will hammer that home, and hang it around her neck like he did with “low energy” Bush and “lyin’ Ted” and “little Marco”.
Half of Americans are below the median for intelligence.
The other 50 percent are not paying attention...
I would like to see an end to primaries, period.
Let the parties use whatever methods pick their own candidates without public subsidies.
Half the people in the US don’t understand how the Electoral College works and would probably think it was rigged also.
Wow! Trump’s ability to control the narrative this election season is beyond compare. Pointing out the GOPe corruption and Ted’s voterless victories was GENIUS.
Lying Ted’s Waterloo was actually Colorado where he won the battle to lose the war.
That does not mean that they cheat according to the current rules. They don't have to do so.
When the deck is stacked there is no need to cheat on the draw.
Yeah was that the consensus before or after Trump made his sweep last night. Th Lefties are screaming now that he’s using the system against them. Ironic isn’t it?
The first post I’ve seen in a long time that gets it right. Kudos to you.
It absolutely is “rigged” in both parties but in different ways. In the DNC there’s superdelegates (whatever that’s supposed to mean)
In the RNC the early races are proportioned in such a way as to favor the early leader after such races. Trump’s victories in those states proves that, since he received a disproportionate amount of delegates to actual votes he obtained. The RNC had it “figured” that the early front runner would be their guy; they hadn’t figured on a Trump coming along.
And that’s where the contests in CO and ND also come into play. Those were also intended to favor the front runner, with those contests decided by essentially closed “elections” that favored the early winner (”presumptive nominee” at that point being again the GOPe fave) who would presumably have a strong ground game at that point built on the momentum from the early wins in IA and SC. Again, Cruz wasn’t considered a factor and had a surprising ground game for an outsider.
There was no cheating by either man. Both capitalized on the exclusionary rules set up by the GOP to favor their guy. Trump by capturing more delegates than votes in the early states and Cruz by capturing delegates by having a better grassroots organization than anyone else.
Most certainly “rigged” but the rigging blew up in the GOP’s face. They thought they had it all figured out after the 2012 rule changes. They changed them then to again favor their pick in 2016. Didn’t work so good.
Maybe all the disgust this generated will force more even handed changes.
Check. Already done.
