GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?
TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.
That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements. In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.' But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes. Just the opposite. As we've seen on issues such immigration, abortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions. His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy. They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment. Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts. But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all. Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types. Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York. Man of the people.

Wow, who knew Donald Buffet was running for President??!!
that may be. But now’s not the time for southern states to be taking swings at NY while they let leftists, the fed and corporations change their minds on religious liberty and “bathroom” laws and they take down memorials and statues because of some pressure from those stupid groups.

How incredibly disingenuous of Guy Benson. He knows very well “establishment insider types” is limited to POLITICAL establishment types in Trump’s worldview. He rails against corrupt government that controls too much and spends too much of the money they have no rights to and never earned. His only complaint against the “rich” is that they are using government preferences in the tax code to pay a lower rate than working people do. Of course, Cruz says that lower tax rate is fine because it is the “rules”.
If Trump's tax plan passes, then it would be cheaper for companies to remain in the US.
You did read the tax plan, right? Think and then think some more.
What does Cruz have to do with Trump’s stated position? Concentrate.
Pay attention. California is coming up!
***Sorry this election season is just crazy. We are eating our own. This is a poor attempt at being funny (my initial thought when I read the above statement). I will vote for the nominee if Cruz or Trump. Anyone else, not voting.***
TRUMP - Brilliant!
Tax the money changers eg Ford foundation
&
Lower taxes on middle class and producers.
CRUZ - Loser!
Business hidden VAT tax
&
Tax America & Lower taxes for Big Money Foriegners
“Today, the United States experienced a tsunami of conservatives now OK with higher taxes, guys in womens restrooms, and liberalizing the GOP platform on abortion.”
I just want him to build the wall and stop illegal immigration. This time around I don’t care about anything else, just this one thing. That’s all I want him to.
Trump is pandering to the Bernie people who will be all pissed off when Hillary is nominated. Higher taxes on the rich and high tarrifs, right up any Socialists ally.
Still Trump supporters wont care. The Donald is still their god.
And you don’t think the Feds aren’t already tinkering with the rates in place??
According to the Tax Foundation (http://taxfoundation.org/article/details-and-analysis-senator-ted-cruz-s-tax-plan), Cruz’s tax plan would enact a 10 percent flat tax on individual income and REPLACE, not SUPPLEMENT the corporate income tax and all payroll taxes with a 16 percent Business Transfer Tax, or subtraction method value-added tax.
Explain why that is somehow inferior to the current structure.
In addition, his plan would repeal a number of complex features of the current tax code.
The plan would cut taxes by $3.6 trillion over the next decade. While it would reduce tax revenues by $768 billion over the next decade, it would generate economic growth from increases in the supply of labor and capital and the much broader tax base due to the new value-added tax.
The plan would significantly reduce marginal tax rates and the cost of capital, which would lead to a 13.9 percent higher GDP over the long term, provided that the tax cut could be appropriately financed.
The plan would also lead to a 43.9 percent larger capital stock, 12.2 percent higher wages, and 4.8 million more full-time equivalent jobs.
On a static basis, the plan would cut taxes by 9.2 percent, on average, for all taxpayers.
Accounting for economic growth, all taxpayers would see an increase in after-tax income of at least 14 percent at the end of the decade.
It cuts taxes and shrinks government. Meanwhile, Trump wants to increase taxes on the rich.
A VAT just gives the professional politicians like Calgary Ted something else to tinker with that is politically easier to raise than income tax. If what I saw in Europe is any guide it will be 30% in no time. I am shocked that a globalist like Cruz wants us to be more like Europe. /s
plain liberalism with increased costs on everything we buy. No thanks. The costs for increased taxes and tariffs are passed on to we the people. I don’t doubt that Trump or Hillary will align with the democrats and try to foist increased taxes on us.
Trump is running in liberal states this week so he has to move to the left. God forbids he get the nomination he’ll have to move really really far left, but he wants the win so he’ll say whatever is ne essay to win.
OR
Maybe he doesn’t want to win and he’s just helping Hillary. Beat up the republicans during the primary. She just didn’t expect Bernie to bern her.
What you saw in Europe was on top of income taxes. I was there as well. Cruz’s plan will make drastically shrink the IRS as well. Those of us who live by the (apparently antiquated on FR) idea that smaller government is better find it superior to Trump’s Warren Buffet-like ideations about taxing the ever higher.
And you failed — miserably — to provide a meaningful response to my question, so I will rephrase it slightly and ask it again: “Do you somehow think the current system and rates are not being “tinkered with?”
*taxing the rich ever higher
Cruzs vat tax is on businesses and replaces what is currently there. It’s not a new added tax.
Why do you Cruz haters refuse to acknowledge the fact the VAT would REPLACE, not SUPPLEMENT the current 39.8% corporate rate?
The hateful, angry, Social Justice Warriors, progressives, Occupy Wall Street types are actually quite stupid and uninformed, and very high on their self importance.
They will run like leamings to whomever will “stick it” to the 1%, in order to pay for their freebees.
When Donald peels these voters off of corrupt Hillary, we could see a Trump wave up and down the Republican ticket
The only time to worry if Cruzer-Paul-Ryan goes along with it, which he hasn’t. Why isn’t the Cruz for Growth running ads against McCan or Paul Ryan?
>>He is for taxing the wealthy would be helpful if he tells us what he means, because I honestly dont know.<<

He has repeatedly and consistently said, in debates and speeches, that loopholes like “carried interest” will be removed in his plan, causing tax rates to go up for hedge fund managers and very wealthy people who use these methods.
Abortion: The 3 exceptions. You people that want a candidate to say “No exceptions” must enjoy losing.
Trannies: The LGBT issue is completely resolved in the minds of millennials. GAME OVER. WE LOST. Do you want to keep losing, or would you rather Trump pick up a chunk of the Bernie supporters who do not dig Hillary?
Because, believe it: That group has grown up with openly gay friends like most of us never experienced back in the day. To them, it’s as valid a civil rights issue as blacks in the 60s. It’s an issue that is more important to them than most others, because of the way young people’s minds are wired, idealistic and so on. In my opinion, to most of them, it has almost nothing to do with Conservative or Liberal. They think of it as Right vs. Wrong.
