Trump campaign projects 1,400 delegates at convention: report
The HIll ^ | 4/20/16 | Rebecca Savransky

Internal documents show Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump's campaign advisers are projecting that the billionaire businessman will secure more than 1,400 delegates at the Republican National Convention in July, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.

That total greatly exceeds the 1,237 delegates necessary to secure the nomination on the first ballot.

The projection was in an internal campaign memo sent to Trump surrogates Tuesday night, after Trump secured a convincing win in the New York primary. It called the front-runner's win in New York "YUGE" and included talking points to use in media interviews.

It advised the surrogates to talk about the "rigged" primary process and to slam the Republican National Committee (RNC).

"The RNC has a lot to answer for as do those who are part of the donor class and the party establishment," the memo said.

"This movement scares the hell out of them and the people scare them, so they will do whatever they can to keep power."

The memo also slams presidential rival Ted Cruz. Trump conspicuously didn't reference his usual nickname of "Lyin' Ted" on Tuesday night after winning the New York primary.

"The Cruz spin machine produces more lies than anything else," the memo said.

It also includes talking points about policy issues and advises people to reference Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton's email scandal moving forward into the general election.

"Hillary email scandal is going to loom large over the next several months. If anyone else had done what she had done, they would already be in prison," it advised people to say of Clinton.

The Associated Press said Wednesday that Cruz was mathematically eliminated from securing the nomination on the first ballot, making Trump the only candidate who could get the nomination before the convention in July.

"We are headed to a contested convention at this point," Cruz said Wednesday.

"Nobody is getting to 1,237," he told Philadelphia radio host Chris Stigall.

GOP presidential candidate John Kasich has long predicted a contested convention.

Trump currently has 845 delegates, followed by Cruz with 559 and Kasich with 147, according to The Associated Press.

It seems that all the remaining states are statewide voter based delegate assignments....

No caucuses....Cruz is finished....

Just prepping the battlefield so that when Mr. Trump falls short of 1237, he and his supporters can whine, moan and riot for being “cheated” out of a victory.

>> The deal is simple: Ohio Gov. as Veep, Rubio as Sec’y of State and they get to staff with their key people - they give their delegates to Trump and its over next Tuesday night with the elections and we’ll never ever have to hear from Elmer Gantry Cruz again <<

You might want to check with a lawyer about violating the federal bribery statutes.

“It will be more then enough to win.

After next week there is going to be growing pressure for Kasich and Cruz to step down.”

Keep hoping and praying if you want, but it’s not going to happen.

Caught on twitter today a photo apparently of Trump’s motorcade/staff outside Gov. Pence’s residence. There are several men standing in the driveway (it’s too distant to identify anyone, even Trump himself). Was hoping for an endorsement before the rally today. None came. Perhaps one will be forthcoming before Indiana votes May 3rd.
Also saw today where Gov. Walker stated that he’ll support Trump!!
Would be awesome to have these two state executives come aboard the Trump Train. ACCEPTANCE!!

It's already started, Kasich and Cruz have nothing left to campaign for except a contested convention, which means that many Republicans will see them as spoilers.

Trump is already appearing Presidential and will start campaigning against the likely Democrat nominee, Hillary.

I was very glad to see Trump give his victory speech last night. You could see the poised confidence of a man who just realized he is very likely to be the next president of the United States.

New York did good by him last night.

Yeah, I came up with 1,302. Unfortunately there is not an office pool I could have gotten into at that time (just before the primaries started).

LOL might have been able to make some money.

Yes, he is growing. I think the changes he made in his staff have been very helpful.

Yes, I now see the separate thread sourced from the NYT accompanied by a larger image of the photo I referenced. Hope Pence will endorse Trump or at least stay neutral.

I don’t know about IN or WA, but I saw an analysis that looked at recent polling in CA, drilled down to the district level and said at least 106 of the 172 delegates to Trump.

I”ve thought so for some time. The WI GOP circle is small (Walker, Ryan, Priebus) and I’ve always thought they wisely pulled Walker out early to avoid tarnishing the brand, as has been the case with Rand Paul. Walker now looks like a neutral choice, not having been in the campaign for months, he brings executive experience, a good track record of getting the right kind of things done, youth, and an important swing state. He would also be a bargaining chip with the GOPe who would see him as a better option in 8 years than Cruz 2.0 and might get behind a Trump-Walker ticket.
