Four years of drought have transformed this biosphere of wealth into something a little less than immaculate, with some homeowners actually letting their lawns turn brown in an effort to conserve precious water.
But enough is enough, declared the Blackhawk Homeowners Association, which issued a letter to the 9,000 residents of Blackhawk stating that as of June 1st, beautiful landscaping will again be required.
The letter told residents that they must have a healthy lawn or drought-tolerant landscaping, or face fines, even litigation.

That’s why I never buy into a HOA or POA; too many rules!
Fined if you do and fined if you don’t. Typical liberal utopia.
Artificial turf your lawn and you can cancel your landscaping service contract.
HOAs and CO-OPs ... where the true communist petty apparatchiks will rule your life!
I hate HOA neighborhoods.
All the houses are usually identical and will all begin to deteriorate at the same time.
Closest thing to communism. Perhaps Sanders should campaign for anHOA at the White House.
So the choice is to face fines from excess water use or the HOA foreclosing on the house.
Good time for non-nazi types to run for the board. If they win, they can cancel fines.
Ping.
Blackhawk is ultra upscale.
I haven't checked into prices but a lot of folks here in SoCal are actually having their lawns painted green. Hard to believe but it's California after all.
Technically, an HOA cannot force you to change your property that way. It’s the same as saying, OK, we want everyone to build a two-car garage, in a neighborhood of one-car garages.
Original architecture is part of the declaration and/or the covenants. House rules cannot supercede those. House rules are modified by board votes. But a majority of the membership is required to modify covenants, and 100% must approve declaration changes.
Plus, no HOA rule can override state regulation.
So the nazi HOA is overstepping their bounds and any resident can bring this to the attention of the local government board that manages HOAs in their area.
We had this problem in Utah a few years back. Eventually the County passed a zeroscaping ordinance that allowed homeowners to forgo watering lawns no matter what the cities thought. Yes the cities were forcing homeowners to keep green lawns while charging high water prices due to the drought. Criminal b@st@rds.
I always thought HOAs came about because some GIs came back from WWII thinking “You know, those Germans and Imperial Japanese were on to something”
It’s actually easy to keep a lawn well-watered, even in times of water shortage. Simply water your lawn for just two minutes every hour a few times every other day. You’ll use a lot less water and your lawn will thank you. Also, no wasted water.
The officers of this HOA have addresses.
Just saying.

And I’m sure you’re boss will understand why you have to run home every hour on the hour for 2 minutes.
