I was told yesterday that Trump is a liberal Democrat.

My reply:

Build the wall.
Enforce the law.
Deport them all.
End sanctuary cities.
End anchor babies.
Slap a moratorium on muslim immigration.
Cut the taxes.
Cut the spending.
Cut the regulations.
Cut the government.
Cut the debt.
Cut the EPA.
Repeal ObamaCare.
Get the feds out and allow health insurance to be sold over state lines.
Send education back to states.
Get a handle on trade.
Make trade deals in our own best interests.
Bring back capital.
Bring back manufacturing.
Bring back jobs.
Strengthen the economy.
Defend the second amendment.
Defend religious freedom.
Appoint constitutional conservative judges.
Rebuild our military.
Bomb the shit out of ISIS (and take their oil).

End political correctness.
Take the GOP head-on.
Take the media head-on.
Take the liberals head-on.
And win, baby, win.

All of the above on a shoestring budget compared to most of the 16 competitors he’s defeated (after they spent 100's of millions of donor bucks).

No PACs.
No big donors.
No party support.

What’s democrat about any of the above?
What’s not conservative?
What’s not to like?

And I’ll add a few more:

Redo the horrid Iran deal.
Take a serious look at NATO.
Require our allies to pay more for their defense.

Rebuild the Reagan Coalition and attract blue collar workers by making America first again on manufacturing, trade, secure borders, economy and jobs, jobs, jobs!

Make America Great Again!

Makes me wish I wasn't already supportying Trump, Jim, just so I could say that you were the one to convince me that Trump is the most conservative candidate; not only in this election, but over the past four elections!!

Well said ...as always!!

It really was not that long ago that Cruz was a complete unknown trying for the Senate in 2012

By 2013 he was one of the most hated political figures in America by shutting down the federal government.

Today he has defeated the majority of the strongest Republican field in history.

he beat Trump in his guaranteed win state of Iowa.

Yeah. Its a big deal. he is going against big money from Trump and Jeb. and the GOPE.

But he needs to win over the Cruz supporters somehow.

Have to disagree strongly with you. Trump needs to do NOTHING to win over Cruz supporters. I think that's the point of Jim's post. At this point Cruz supporters need to ask themselves who is likely to accomplish more conservative goals. If they don't realize it's Trump, guess we have to leave them behind.

One of Trump's greatest strengths is that he does not play the PC game. He lays out his goals and people can decide whether they want to follow him or not. There is NO special hispanic, or black, or LGBTQ ...XYZ, or rich, or poor, or educated, or uneducated, etc., etc.

EVERY other candidate, on both sides, continues to play the pandering game. Here a little, there a little.

So, Cruz followers get on board ...or don't. There will be no special carrot dangled for your support.

there are about 5 cruz voters on here spewing their establishment talking points all day every day. Always the same handful of people and it has got tiresome.

You are correct. I have been on Free Republic since the late 90's (lost password and had to start over in 2002), and this has always been my go-to site for good conservative interaction. Never had to check who was posting fist. I could follow just about any thread and know I would get conservative view.

This election cycle changed that. I AUTOMATICALLY now know the posters who ALWAYS post anti-Trump articles, often from liberal sources. I realize everyone is not enamoured with Trump, that's their right, but committing yourself to full-time anti-Trump posting seems counter-productive.

Fortunately, there are LOTS of good FRiends here, to more than offset the bad sports. So, I'm staying. Not going anywhere. Just learning to ignore a certain handful.

The polls were all over the place with regard to Iowa. Frankly, it was seen as one of the toughest contests by the Trump campaign - months ahead of time.

As it turned out, it was pretty much a three-way tie with regard to the all-important delegates (and Cruz never fails to point out that it's the delegates, and not votes, that matters) between Cruz, Trump and Rubio. Basically they all had 7 delegates with Cruz getting 8.

So when Trump won the 99 delegates in Florida, it was basically the equivalent of about 11 or 12 Iowas for Cruz.

On Tuesday night, the 95 delegates in NY will represent about 12 times the amount of delegates that Cruz won in Iowa. If Trumps wins them as expected, his FL and NY delegate haul will be approx. 24 times as much as what Cruz won in FL.

So it's a bit curious that the Cruz folks still like to hang their hats on Iowa.

“I thought that’s why Conservatives look to the record to determine a candidate’s Conservatism.”

A. NONE of the GOPe Senators’ ACTUAL “records” indicate that they are “conservative”.

B. OUTSIDER NON-POLITICIANS have no “record”: that’s how you know they are outsiders and are not politicians.

You have not actually addressed the points I made, all of which were backed up with primary source evidence. I am not trying to claim that Trump never held any liberal views, but rather that if you look at the totality of his past worldview it was not liberal overall. Even at his furthest left, he was still right-of-center. Some people claim otherwise because they cherry pick quotes and refuse to look at his whole record.

I wanted to illustrate on many of the key issues he’s running on, he has actually been pretty consistent in his beliefs, often using nearly the same phrasing for years. That’s not true for every issue, of course, but even there I think it is important to look at the whole picture in context, which is something a lot of the specifically Trump-hating Cruz supporters refuse to do. So I implore you, take a step back and critically look at him—at his entire history.

The sad thing is you discount every liberal policy and belief the man says, in order to project your desired candidate’s qualities on the man.

In reality, Trump is about one thing, and one thing only: Trump. Not America, not conservative principles, heck, not even liberal ones. He is only for himself.

You are, of course, the one projecting by making such an obviously subjective pronouncement like this. That is your opinion (and one on very shaky ground at that)—nothing more. Please, take an honest look at what you are doing and try not to become what you are criticizing.

There is nothing conservative about Donald J. Trump, you are projecting your wants and desires on a blank slate whom is no better than Barrack Obama.

Then you must be arguing that all the points that JimRob wrote about are not conservative, because I’ve already provided evidence that most of those stances have been Trump’s long-term positions.

For the one specific point I wrote about that you did mention, the one-time wealth tax he proposed in 2000, I’ve already explained how he believed that most of the very wealthy who were taxed would actually make all of their money back (if not more) via a boom in business and investments caused by finally paying off the national debt. In regard to health care, he has made it clear over and over that he only wants the government to fund those too poor to afford their own health care (so they are not dying in the streets, as he likes to say). Education is an important function of local governments. I watched the town hall, and Trump never said that he thought that specifically the federal government should control it—in fact, he’s said quite the opposite many, many times and was doing so at least a decade and half before he declared his candidacy for president.

I’ve never seen proof that Trump has at any time supported gay marriage as a policy (yes, I know he told Tim Russert in 1999 that he hadn’t made up his mind on the subject and that he attended a friend’s gay marriage, but that’s not the same thing as being for it as a political policy). He has, on the other hand, said explicitly that he is not for gay marriage. Yes, he did change his position on abortion, I will give you that (although I, at least, am willing to accept that people can change their minds over the years). However, Supreme Court appointments are just about the only thing a president can do on that subject, and I already addressed that topic in my long post (he is setting it up so that there will be no question or wiggle room over whether he will appoint conservatives).

I’m sorry, but at a time when the country is falling apart, forgive me if I don’t care much about taking federal land and giving it to the states, retaining a progressive income tax (while slashing taxes overall), or keeping the eminent domain laws as they are. I would encourage you to reevaluate your priorities.

Awesome list of “accomplishments” for Cruz: called another Senator a liar, won some caucuses, won a Senate position in Texas a couple of years ago, took credit for the Senate switching from Dem to Pub, and shut down the FedGov for a couple of days without changing a damn thing.

All in all, I’d say you’ve proved Cruz is “qualified” to be President.

However, you forgot a few of Cruz’s other important accomplishments, namely how under Cruz’s leadership, the Senate stood up to Obama and stopped his agenda dead in its tracks by passing a budget that eviscerated his illegal immigration policies, eliminated the energy-destroying EPA, eliminated the Marxist propaganda Education Department, eliminated the job-destroying Labor Department, eliminated the racist Civil Rights Commission, defunded the FCC until they give back control of the Internet to private industry, defunded Obamacare, defunded the Planned Parenthood slaughter, defunded enforcement of 99% of Obama”s regulations and Executive Orders. It was a great day for America when that happened, when Cruz lead the Senate to stop Obama’s agenda cold.

“ACU does rankings for conservatives. Ted Cruz ranks first”

you should have added that to your Cruz’s list of “accomplishments”: he has a high ranking by a group that does rankings.
