Parole approved for Charles Manson cult member Leslie Van Houten

CHINO, Calif. -- A California panel recommended parole Thursday for former Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten more than four decades after she went to prison for the notorious killings of a wealthy grocer and his wife.

The decision will now undergo administrative review by the Board of Parole Hearings. If upheld it goes to Gov. Jerry Brown, who has the final word on whether the now-66-year-old Van Houten is released from the California Institution for Women in Chino.

Brown previously blocked the parole of former Manson follower Bruce Davis, citing the gravity of his offenses and his refusal to fully accept responsibility for his role in the murders of a stunt man and a musician.

Van Houten was "numb" after the parole board decision was made at the California Institution for Women, said her attorney Rich Pfeiffer.

Van Houten, a one-time homecoming princess, participated in the killings of Leno La Bianca and his wife Rosemary a day after other so-called "Manson family" members murdered pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others in 1969.

If Moonbeam Brown has any cajones at all he’ll deny the recommendation, of course I doubt he does.

I was just mentioning to my girlfriend that now we will see if Governor Brown is serious about his belief in equal pay for equal work. He just refused to OK the parole for Bruce Davis, a male member of the Manson family based on the heinous nature of the crimes that he committed, the same crimes Leslie Van Houten was convicted of committing. If Brown is honest about equal pay, he'll deny Van Houten for the same reasons.

I thought “Life” meant life. Oh, this is Kalifornia. Never mind.....

Not as bad as the state of Washington. The man they arrested who (allegedly) killed and dismembered a woman he met at a baseball game, they're considering charging him with 2nd degree murder, and he could get out in 15 years or so. Washington is full of liberal lunatics.

As I’ve written before here on FR over the years when mention of the Manson Family appears, I absolutely hate every single one of them and if it were up to me to decide to execute them all at once with a single press of a button or let them remain alive and in prison, I’d press the button with both thumbs and never think about them anymore. Without pity, mercy, or remorse.

I was a kindergartener in Southern California when the Manson Family did their crimes and read all I needed to know about them from Bugliosi’s book which was left laying around and available to me at such an early age. I watched the LAPD shootout with the Symbionese Liberation Army live on television and between them and the Mansons I came to regard every counterculture shaggy longhair as a societal cretin to be on guard from.

Today I’m a grown man, but if liberals today are now in favor of finally paroling a member of that fiendishly wicked Manson Family who by all rights should have been executed decades ago in California’s gas chamber, I’d just like to remind them that it’s people like Leslie Van Houten who are the reason I own all kinds of firearms today and didn’t foolishly grow up thinking that a smiling young woman couldn’t possibly be a savage demon deserving of being sent back to hell by any means necessary.

Leslie Van Houten, take this as due warning that if California is stupid enough to let you wriggle free from the prison you deserve to die in as a dried up old unloved hag and I catch you stepping one toe onto my property, I’ll explode your head from my doorstep like it was an overinflated balloon filled with red shaving cream. You goddamned better believe, you sick twisted witch.

Agreed...We lived in LA County when those murders took place, when they were sentenced to death, and when the death sentence was commuted. People were scared when those murders happened, I remember it plainly.

None of those Manson family members should ever be paroled in my view, every last one should die in prison.

The lack of swift executions after murderers are found guilty is a crime, a blot, a stain.

Ecclesiastes 8:11 Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.

Scriptures and ancient wisdom universally mandate swift and sure executions for murder and some other crimes.

It is long past time to bring that back.

I bet she has dinner at Bill Ayers home. I believe his wife was enamored with the Tate killing.

I read somewhere that Tex Watson refuses to participate in parole hearings. He does not want people to think that his conversion to Christianity was a ploy to get paroled.

I have no idea if that is true. But I hope it is

She deserves to stay in prison for life. None of those she helped murder got any mercy; why should she? If she wants to atone, she can continue teaching literacy to fellow inmates. She can do her good deeds within prison walls.

Funny thing. Both my girlfriend and I have met Charles Manson. She because she was the nurse in the Sacramento County Jail where he was brought in during a between prison transfer, and she was part of the processing. Me because as an honors student in College, I was touring the prison where he was being held, and got to sit in on, and observe, a group therapy session in which Manson was participating.

Both of us agreed that, in our encounters, Manson came across as a psychopath who was extremely smart, extremely scary, and manipulative. We both agreed that when he looked at you, his eyes seemed to look very deep into you, and you felt strange having him look at you. His look was an emotionless stare. . . I thought he just did not blink. The guard said that "Charlie had practiced not blinking because it unnerved people." He could out wait anyone before he had to blink.

My first thought...and suddenly, the Van Houten family name, in light of the Simpson twisted sense of humor makes sense.

You bet, CA is full of out of state losers, like Manson, illegals etc. Same with east coasters like Pelosi, Boxer et al.

Btw, CA has the very ‘best’ as well as the worst of nearly everything.
