Cruz eyes double-agent delegates in bid to snatch GOP nomination from Trump
The Washington Times ^ | 4/13/2016 | S.A. Miller

Sen. Ted Cruz’s hopes for winning the Republican presidential nomination outright have faded, and he has shifted to a strategy of gaming the rules, angling to send enough double-agent delegates to the July convention to snatch victory from front-runner Donald Trump.

It’s a major reversal for Mr. Cruz, who just weeks ago insisted he would win the 1,237 delegates needed to clinch the nomination before the convention. But major wins in Utah, Wisconsin and Colorado have not closed the gap, with a series of East Coast primaries looming.

Now the best option for the senator from Texas is trench warfare at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

How many times are people here going to post this same exact story, just slightly reworded?

I don't think they had organized in that way. It was killing them, but trump knew that for him any hint of this kind of buying of delegates’ votes would be jumped on in the media and treated as criminal graft.

He has called it out and now the establishment and Cruz are saying “it's by the rules. “

Their words are his protection to do the same thing. With manafort on board his delegates will stay home. The others will be offered a better deal than Cruz offered. After the first round you don't know who someone is actually supporting until the moment they cast their ballot.

Cruz has no honor. His belief that the presidency is his by divine right is scary.

Do you live in Opposite World?

Every single day, Trump Supporters whine that Cruz is "stealing" their ordained victory and should drop out.

Whining Trump has the same Rule Book as everyone else, yet he holds his breath and stomps his feet, screams unfair and rigged when things don't go his way.

...just like his supporters.

Exactly as I said weeks ago. Cruz hasn’t been in contention for weeks.

Told ya so.

And no, he won’t cheat or steal delegates on the first round, where he loses.

I have said for weeks now:

CRUZ. WILL. NEVER. BE. THE. NOMINEE.

"It may be legal but it certainly isn’t ethical."

So say a lot of Trump's former investors, too.

That's what I keep sayin' here. If Trump is the man who can make winning deals with Putin and the ayatollahs, he sure as hell ought to be able to demonstrate that by making a deal with a few GOP delegates.

Cruz, cheater, no integrity.

I used to think that he’d be an acceptable alternate if Trump didn’t win, but I know better now.

By the time this is over, banana republics will be laughing at us.

They've been laughing at us since November of 2008.

Unless your goal is to elect Hillary (a distinct possibility for some people posting toxic threads), I hope you will consider setting a more positive tone in your many pro-Trump instead of the negative tone in so many anti-Cruz posts.

The “no honor”, “doesn’t care about the will of the people”, “stolen”, “Loozer Cruzers”, and the rest (not your words, but certainly in keeping with the articles you choose to post) doesn’t help elect Trump. It creates a toxic atmosphere in which neither Trump nor Cruz can be elected. In other words, President Hillary!

In a baseball game, Cruz would steal a base (okay, he’d get tagged before he made it, but he’d try). In poker, Cruz would bluff (and he’d probably do that well). Whether or not we like the rules (and I don’t), Cruz is playing by the rules of the game, rules the establishment wrote to stop people like both Trump and Cruz. Cruz is outplaying the establishment, but Trump is still the most likely winner because Trump gets more votes. Why complain about that?

Without Cruz, Trump would have an establishment opponent like Kasich who would have all the anti-Trump support, and Trump would be far less likely to win. I’ve done this professionally in many elections before I retired, and I’ve done the models for this year just for fun. At least for now, Trump is still better off with Cruz in the race, and Trump is still the most likely nominee.

Personal attacks are both unnecessary and unhelpful. Does anyone benefit other than Hillary, Bernie, Jeb, Rubio, Kasich, and others who consistently support Amnesty, who consistently support Obamacare, and who consistently support restrictions on our individual, God-given right to keep and bear arms?

Decent Americans are better off with a real truce, and not just a “I’ll stop when every person who even pretends to support the other side stops” gesture toward a truce that will never happen.

The nonsense is not helping us to elect the best possible conservative in November. I want 99% or more of Cruz supporters to vote Trump, when he is nominated, even if they hold their noses. In the event that Cruz wins the nomination, I want 99% or more of Trump supporters to vote Cruz, even if they hold their noses. Offending the other side does not encourage them to vote Trump (or Cruz) in November.

I cannot help wondering how many of those who stir up the Trump-Cruz wars are actually paid trolls taking Jeb/Hillary/Soros money to cause trouble - not all of them but probably enough to set the toxic tone.

I stand by my recurring statement:

Cruz and Trump are both imperfect but they agree far more than 80% of the time (see my tagline from Ronald Reagan). They should be friends and allies, and we should treat both of them as such.

It will happen, but if he had been first, then he would have been accused of bribery. The others would have pretended to be shocked along with their complicit media.

He has gotten them to pretty much acknowledge in public what rules they are playing by.

They call Bernie a socialist, and yet he is trying to get elected the old-fashioned way.

And now we have the more equal pigs of the Central Committee of the Republican Soviet of the US (CCRSUS) deciding what is best for the less equal pigs. I am sure that Castro is watching in amazement. Putin would just think they are a bunch of amateurs.

with his constant Cruz bashing and BS accusations of fraud and corruption where none exists

IF this isn't fraud, and it is, it is certainly bad faith. The reasonable expectation of the voters is that their votes would be counted in the selection. Perhaps in ties the party decides, perhaps, but it isn't even close to a tie. Further the party rules are a unilateral action by the parties against the voters. The voters never agreed to that bargain. The GOP has done everything they can to protect their side of the bargain while denying the voters their reasonable expectations.

Whoever earns over 50% of the delegates will be our nominee. I encourage you to put down your stones, agree with Jim Robinson, and support whoever becomes our candidate.

I think already know the answer to this.

No, that is “democracy.” We are not a democracy. We are a republic. We select delegates, and then they vote on our behalf.

My nominee will be the one with the largest anti-leftist support REGARDLESS of party.

It’s way too early to assume that a GOP-Elitist nomination will mean a tinker’s damn.

Perhaps if Trump is ousted, he might endorse whoever gets crowed. Otherwise, all bets are off.
