My NC GOP District convention report
self ^ | April 11, 2016 | self

Posted on 04/11/2016 6:27:26 AM PDT by FR_addict

This Saturday was the district conventions for many of the NC districts. The keynote speaker was Dr. Ada Fisher, a very impressive speaker and I recommend her short book “I am a Republican” which gives the history of NC African American Republicans. She also said it was her opinion that candidates for President should be born in America.

I wasn’t sure how the process worked, but submitted myself as a delegate candidate. I wasn’t sure if anyone would second my nomination. All the GOP delegates in my county were Cruz supporters.

Someone outside my district seconded me. Each of us gave a short speech as to why we should be a delegate and who we supported.

Here are my tallies. I think he said we had 118 district delegates. Of those, 24 were submitted as district delegates to represent NC districts at the GOP convention.

6 would be chosen from the 24 to represent the district.

We were each given two minutes to speak and we were to state who we supported. I counted 8 Trump supporters from the group. 3 Kasich, 2 Rubios. The rest Cruz supporters.

The 118 delegates present could vote for 6 out of the 24.

When the votes were tallied, all the delegates selected were Cruz supporters.

Of the 6 selected, the delegate in first place had 51 votes, I think they said the last selected delegate of the six chosen had 30.

Assuming that Cruz supporters voted for Cruz, and Trump supporters voted for Trump supporters, there were probably less than 30 Trump supporters at the District convention out of the 118 attending. This is a reasonable assertion, because some of the people, who voted for me, showed me their ballots and they were almost identical to mine. Also, we had fewer Trump supporters on the list of delegates.

Also even before the delegate names were put into nomination, I noticed the guy next to me had a list of the people he planned to vote for. So the Cruz people were organized before the convention as to who would be supporting Cruz on the ballot.

The Trump campaign needs to help Trump supporters organize for the state and national convention. This is a big expense for most of us and help to find rooms with good rates and close to the convention sites would be extremely helpful. A list of Trump supporters for the coming state convention would also be handy.

Some of the Cruz people said they planned to vote for Cruz only. That’s the difference between Cruz and Trump people. I couldn’t vote for Cruz, but then if Cruz had won the state, I wouldn’t sign up to be a delegate to take someone else’s place, who could vote for either Cruz or Trump. I wouldn’t be stacking the deck. If for no other reason, it is expensive to be a delegate and I wanted to do it for my candidate, but not for someone I don’t support.

The attitude of some of the Cruz supporters is to steal the election from the people, who stood in lines for hours to vote. I was an election official this year and saw the turn out for myself. I reported to the polls before 6am and didn't leave until almost 11pm. The state also had a huge turn-out for early voting. The people wanted to vote for their candidate and not have their votes nullified by the party elites.

Yep, anything to deny the voters a choice. Disgraceful. St. Ted should be ashamed as to what his creepy campaign has become.

Are you seriously insulting fellow freepers by insinuating that we lack the ability to evaluate a candidate with our own intellects and that we must rely on pundits and magazines in order to form our views? I will put my intellect and integrity up against the cult of personality surrounding Trump any day of the week.

No matter how hard you try to build up a ball of crap, it’s still a ball of crap.

Was trump aware of how the primary works in Colorado? could he have done something to insure that his voters were represented? Don’t try to miscast his incompetence in that regard as theft by someone else, who knew the process and worked it to his advantage.

They got to vote for delegates. Is the problem that Trump failed to organize and Trump voters are too low info to be able to figure out which delegates to support?

It should be interesting to see how the Trump camp fails to give its voters any direction on voting in PA’s primary. They will have to select delegates by name from the ballot without any indication who supports whom.

I expect the Cruz camp to inform his voters. That dirty cheater.

I’d like to second that note of appreciation, even though I’m supporting a different candidate. I think this election cycle has opened a lot of eyes about the process. The rules are (deliberately, IMO) obscure, with easily-missed deadlines to he come involved.

As a Jerseyite, I think I’ve already missed whatever cutoff dates there are.

That's what we've been saying about Ted Cruz and his FR crluzers this whole time!

Glad to see you've come around to our way of thinking. :)

The master negotiator businessman should have better people in place if he wants to insure his nomination. But we should trust that he will appoint competent people if elected....

I like your nice strawman, but you were waiting for someone to address the criticism of Trump without referencing another candidate.

Which I did. :)

You're welcome, BTW.

Nice try and I have to say the only person to have been able to do so thus far, so I do give you credit. But you’re assuming facts not in evidence ie; that Trump was a sure thing. Trump was never inevitable, and his viability suffers directly from his own flaws. Can one of you possibly acknowledge that his ridiculous behavior has caused people to view him unfavorably. I DID see a supporter either on TV or on Twitter acknowledge that he has a twitter problem. Acknowledging it is the first step to curing it. For every voter he attacts with that kind of childishness he turns off two more.

You're talking about stuff that happened during the two months after the Republicans should have closed ranks in a protective ring around Trump, and started launching assaults on BernHillary.

Acknowledging that the Republicans formed their usual circular firing squad, and failed to pick the brass ring of the presidency lying at their feet, would be your first step to curing your illusions about what's actually going on here.

Trump was unelectable from day one. The NR magazine issue was a response to him being unelectable, not the cause of it.

There have been articles for the better part of a year about the ground game that Cruz was putting in place in every state. It seems that a prudent candidate would at least investigate why his opponent was doing that.

If I am reading it right, on the first ballot Trump gets 30 and Cruz 27. Period. So some NC Cruz supporters must vote Trump, but only on first ballot.

From

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P16/NC-R

Trump average popular vote over 13 districts, he got around 35,000 per. Cruz got around 32,000 per. What a ground game does is find enough of those to take the next step, actual delegate selection.

I am laughing at your superior tone, oh enlightened trumpbot. So the GOPe should have fixed on trump, booted the rest of the candidates and presented Trump to us run of the mill generic republican voters as a fait accompli? Do we have no say? Trump was never my choice nor the choice of anyone I know, so you’re mad that the party didn’t ram him down our throats just because 37% of you want him?

so are you excusing his ridiculously childish behavior because it’s 2 mo later? how does that make sense. he’s LOSING voters because of it, the field has narrowed and he should be trying to attract the rest of us. Twitter meltdowns and position changing every few minutes isn’t going to do it.

If the election is lost to the Democrats, the GOPe & Cruz’s ego own the failure.

That's not what I'm saying at all.

The GOPe and the rest of you bought Lotto tickets, expecting to win the Big Enchilada, when the winning ticket for the presidency was already in their hand.

I play the sure thing, not pie-in-the-sky expectations.

I guess there’s no convincing you otherwise, but I happen to know from my own experience and the people that I know and talk to in many different states, it comes down to Trump’s intemperate behavior. He was never going to beat Hillary. like I said, I will vote for him bc IMO there’s a 5% chance he will be better than she would be, and that’s good enough for me.
