A U.S. Naval officer who has been charged with espionage has been identified as Lt. Cmdr. Edward C. Lin, a Taiwanese-born flight officer assigned to a Naval reconnaissance unit. Lin was arrested eight months ago but his case did not become public until a pre-trial hearing this past Friday that will determine whether he will face a court martial.

The way things are going, I believe Taiwan will be amicably reconciled with the People's Republic—at Taiwan's request, even—within my lifetime. Ethnic, cultural, and economic ties to the mainland will be powerful inducements compared to the erratic, unsure course our elites are charting both domestically and internationally.

America does not have the will or capability to politically or militarily protect Taiwan from China.
Everyone knows we would never risk sacrificing a US city in trade for protecting any of our allies.

Frankly, anyone can be a turncoat. American born citizens are just as much as a risk, if they subscribe to a hostile ideology. Snowden, as another example, was born in NC.
Over 32 years of military service I have met as served with multiple foreign born individuals from across the globe- including England, Nigeria, Sudan, and Poland who have bought into America and want to integrate into society. I have also met several native born Americans or who I wouldn’t trust as far as I can throw them. It is not a simple matter of where you are from.
The risk comes from those who either are focused on self-advancement (regardless of cost) or those who subscribe to hostile ideologies (Fascism, Communuism, Islamism) rather than a matter of foreign born equals a potential turncoat.
