CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR CHAIR DANCING
RAVEL: STRING QUARTET IN F, ASSEZ VIF TRES RHYTHMEThe fancy French direction means to keep it lively and rhythmic. There is a lot of pizzicato, which means plucked strings, not small pizzas. This movement gets extracted a lot for movie soundtracks, which is probably where youve heard it before. Its one of the most popular movements in the French chamber literature. The middle section is for lolling about in your chair.
Ravel: String Quartet in F, second movement

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
How are your mixers? Do you have to work Saturday?

CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR CHAIR DANCING
TCHAIKOVSKY: SYMPHONY #6 IN B MINOR, OP. 74, ALLEGRO CON GRAZIA This movement from Petes last symphony has the unusual time signature of 5/4, which translates to a waltz, but only if you have three left feet. The middle section darkens before the recap. The slow walk down the D Major scale near the end is heartbreaking.
Although some have viewed this symphony as Tchaikovskys suicide note, two of the most recent biographies have debunked that notion. As a member of the Russian nobility, Petes yen for teenage boys was not something that bothered the law or his contemporaries. Because of the nobilitys way of avoiding the law, you can understand why the Russian people viewed the Bolsheviks as a breath of fresh air.

CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR CHAIR DANCING
BEETHOVEN: TRIO FOR PIANO, VIOLIN & CELLO IN B-FLAT, OP. 97, ALLEGROThis fast minuet is from one of Beethovens greatest chamber works. The middle section starts like Charles Ives and then sounds a lot like Chopin.
This historic recording is by three giants of the immediate postwar era, sometimes known as the Million Dollar Trio.
Ill have more chair dancing music tomorrow night.
Beethoven: Piano Trio in B-flat, Op. 97, second movement
