Cruz's reception in New York was chilly.
Back in January, Ted Cruz made the mistake of assuming the rest of America still hates New York. His dismissal of "New York values" didn't endear him to the Empire State Governor Cuomo demanded an apology from Cruz, and the New York Daily News did what the New York Daily News does best and as expected, the comment came back to haunt him as he campaigned in the Bronx on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, at a massive rally in Long Island, Donald Trump, who's polling ahead of Cruz in New York by a wide margin, used the senator's remarks against him. "Do you remember during the debate when he started lecturing me on New York values like we're no good?" Trump asked the crowd. "Folks, I think you can forget about him."

Obviously, neither of you know much of anything about NY and NYers - there are many conservatives in NY (just outnumbered).
And I was a Cruz supporter until he jumped in with the establishment, and no I didn’t like his “NY values comment either” because he decided to paint every NYer with the same brush.
I guess South Carolina must be full of those “NYers” as well
Dems can’t crossover & vote for the other guy; it’s a —closed primary—!!
“And I was a Cruz supporter until he jumped in with the establishment”
Yeah. Sure you were. What a load of crap. You know that’s not true.
“neither of you know much of anything about NY and NYers - there are many conservatives in NY (just outnumbered).”
Do I really need to be from New York to know what New York values are? I’m not blinded to Clinton, Schummer, Deblasio, Bloomberg, etc. Need I go on.
You’re only offended by his comments, if there’s something about your values that bothers your conscience.
I live in California, and Im disgusted by the politics here. It is like a Communist country here. Everything is being taken away.
If Ted something negative about California values, I would kiss the ground he walks on for pointing it out to the nation and exposing it for what it is, because I condemn the horrible values this state has.
Dont you want to disavow all the crappy liberal policies this state has?
Or do you want to be exactly the way it is?
Im lost on how you could be offended by this comment.
Cruz hammers New Yorkers
New Yorkers hammer back
So just what New York values do you want to keep that you think Cruz insulted?
Abortion?
Gay rights?
Anti-2nd Amendment?
Of course there are conservatives in NY. Folks in NY countryside are just like folks down South for the most part. Good, hard workin, honest people.
Ted Cruz was referring to liberal progressive policies of NY and folks down South knew exactly what he meant by that but just like politics, you'll have some pundit twist and misconstrue the statement to mean something totally different.
I'm not an anti-Trump guy. I prefer Cruz because he is my senator, he fought the establishment good ol boyz in D.C. and they hate him. Which means, he did what he promised the citizens of Texas. Go to D.C. and fight the Warshington establishment and K-street. He did and he is unpopular for it. Good for him.
If Trump gets the nomination, I will support him whole heartily. He will have to earn my trust just as I feel Cruz earned mine.
I don’t have to do anything I don’t want to do...if you don’t like it, tough...I know and you will soon ROFL!!!
“I dont have to do anything I dont want to do...”
That’s true and nobody can make you want to have class, unfortunately.
YOU wouldn’t have class if it hit you in the face!!!
It is true and I was for Cruz, even donated to him - but that changed starting with taking Neil Bush into his campaign, then siding with the Chicago protestors and on from there.
Yes, you really need to be from NY to understand anything about NY - plus you are confusing values with politcians. I am totally disgusted with the politics, yet I vote anyway eventhough my vote means nothing most of the time.
I was offended by his comment because he lumped everyone in NY into one negative comment - he forgets those of us who fight the loosing battle here, but continue the fight anyway.
And I do disavow all the crappy liberal policies here, but not all NYers are blinded to Clinton, Schummer, Deblasio, Bloomberg, etc.
The difference is that I don’t ascribe a “value” set broadly to include an entire state. Now, if Ted meant a specific set of people in a certain area - he shouldn’t have said NY values. But he did.
There are many cnservatives in NY city and Long Island, not just the “countryside”.
Ten Ted Cruz should have said Donald Trump supports NY Liberal Progressive POLICIES - you don’t question or insult people’s values because you think you know what they are.
I prefered Cruz also, but he lost me to Trump for the Primaries, however, I will happily vote Cruz in the general.
And those NY values he spoke of came shining through in their reactions to Cruz.
You're right, his did word it wrong. All the candidates have misspoken and gaffed. It's tough running from event to event. I'm sure they are both freaking exhausted. He did follow up and explain what he meant, but folks will hang on to the original statement. Human nature I guess. When he said it, I knew exactly what he meant. He was speaking about liberal progressive social policies.
Very similar to the Cruz mistress fiasco. Everyone jumps on this like stink on Ca-Ca, but totally wax over the same indiscretions of Trump during his marriages. The campaign should never gone in the gutter. Republicans eating each other. Just troublesome considering what's at stake.
I didn’t like his NY statement, but that’s not what did it for me - it was aligning with the Bushes, it was his comments siding with the Chicago protestors and all that.
At least with Trump, you know what you get, he doesn’t try to hide those things.
Regardless, I think we need an outsider to shake up this corrupt system before it’s too far gone - I used to think it was Cruz, but now not so much.
His comment was directed to Trump and lumping Trump with the liberal politicians.
He was not attacking the people.
Again, I would have no offense if he made this kind of comment about California.
Yes. There are a lot of long suffering conservatives here (fortunately I live in Devin Nunes’ conservative district), but they make up about 25% of the population.
How in the hell could you take this to be an attack on the people, let alone the firefighters and police officers who save lives during 9/11?
This is so completely overblown, it’s ludicrous.
If he said “California values”, I would know exactly what he meant.
I would have no belief he was talking about me.
This is silliness.
Beddy
BedE sCruz
Good one
I get it. The Bushes are not conservatives, but the establishment is coalescing behind Trump cause they hate him more than Cruz. Cruz cannot help who endorses him. What's he to say, I do not accept your endorsement?
Secondly, Cruz only latched hold of the stories of Trump supposedly inciting violence against protesters. Wrong move in my book for Cruz to hop on the story. He should have just been presidential and kept his mouth shut. With that said, all the candidates are doing this to gain some sort of momentum...even Trump.
All this nonsense is small potatoes compared to what's at stake if we lose to the democrats. Somebody needs to facilitate a damn truce and quickly.
coalescing behind Cruz,
Sorry
