Dumb-dumb out of date records error led to administrative hold. John finally got them to update and release the hold. Long convoluted story, but that's not important. What's important now is that we're up and running just in the nick of time for Wisconsin.

If you don’t undo the host file change, concievably, some point down the road, the IP address that FR resolves to could change, and if you still have it hard coded in the host file, pointed at the old IP, the site just wouldn’t load.

I could read FR but I couldn’t login
...and that tip to add the FR IP address to that file didn’t work on my computer.

My server still rejected it.

Thanks to all who made the effort to help other Freepers to at least find the FR site. I was on the road most of yesterday, but had noticed early morning that I was not getting to FR. For me the Commcast search box was what I received. It caused some withdrawal symptoms but I switched to Drudge and moved on wondering if as was seen on the “isitdownrightnow.com” site had Jim pulled the plug, taken the money and run/s. I did not know about the FB side of FR, now I do. Too bad Jim doesn’t have a mass email that could address the issues when the site goes down.

I just typed in the number and it took me somewhere the number and some words appeared. I clicked on the number and the words and...... voila, there was Free Republic back again
