While we disagree with Mr. Buchanan on which candidate is the best standard bearer for the conservative movement there is one thing we do agree on passionately.
No matter who gets the Republican nomination, the establishment must lose.
In a recent column Lock Out The Establishment In Cleveland! Pat Buchanan echoed the conclusions of our four-part series on what conservatives should do if Trump wins the nomination:
As Buchanan explained, to accomplish that goal, All Trump and Cruz need do is instruct their delegates to vote to retain Rule 40 from the 2012 convention. Rule 40 declares that no candidate can be placed in nomination who has failed to win a majority of the delegates in eight states.
Trump has already hit that mark. Cruz almost surely will. But no establishment favorite has a chance of reaching it.
With Cruz and Trump delegates voting to retain Rule 40, they can guarantee no Beltway favorite walks out of Cleveland as the nominee and that Ted Cruz or Donald Trump does.
As Pat Buchanan said, No matter who wins in Cleveland, the establishment must lose. We urge Trump and Cruz delegates across the country to do what their compatriots in Tennessee and a few other states have started to do; get together and form an informal alliance that commits them to voting for Cruz or Trump and only Cruz or Trump.
That is being way too optimistic. If so, will that still cinch the deal? Nope. The GOP-e could still steal the nomination away.
And if he doesn't get that number? All indications are that he will get the boot.
It's like putting all your chips on one number. And that's a sure-fire way to lose.
No problem.
I think keeping rule 40 is great. The only better rule would be rule 40b which says, “Only Trump can walk out with the nomination”.
But that won’t happen.
Rule 40 says: “Only those who have won at least 8 states can walk out with the nomination.”
I’ll settle for their agreeing to keep rule 40 in place.
It’s okay. I had to reread it a couple times. :-)
I see no harm in rule 40.
True
See, I’m a real FReeper. I not only don’t read the excerpts - I don’t even read the headlines!

Cruz is a loser. He’s a distant second.
First is Cruz has to get the 8 states... obviously his side not going to go for retaining that rule it unless he does get 8 states...if he does not ....then there as much invested in a free-for-all on the second ballot as the rest of the GOPe is
And the other thing is Cruz maneuvering to put in Trump delegates that are really stealth Cruz delegates.....
the Trump people are not going to be motivated to help Cruz if they feel that it all just a ploy to try and steal the vote from Trump on a second ballot
and again if Cruz has seeded all the other delegations with a bunch of crypto Cruz delegates... then Cruz has no major motivation to keep that rule...he may think why bother already got my secret people in place
problem is Cruz seeding the convention with a bunch of delegates of questionable loyalty....ie Trump delegates that are actually crypto 2nt vote Cruz delegates......
well no honor among Thieves
you might just have Trump delegates that pretended to be crypto 2nt vote Cruz delegates there are actually crypto vote GOPe choice Jeb delegates...
the GOPe been helping Cruz put in place these fake Trump delegates the Cruz think we're going to be loyal to him on the 2nt....
what's the chance that Cruz has been double-crossed and the GOPe is really been putting in their own stealth delegates with Cruz’ unwitting help
I.E. Cruz thinks he's snaking Trump delegates from around the country (with the GOPe help) when in fact that the GOPe snaking both Trump and Cruz by playing Cruz
so there might be a lot of crypto delegates that are going to not vote to keep that rule in place...after all it's to every delegates advantage in there if there are already disloyal to leave their hands-free to vote for the highest bidder
bottom line there's all sorts of Shenanigans and delegates of questionable loyalty that are going to be in that convention.... and that to me at the end of the day means GOPe advantage
Cooperate? Compromise? Hold your nose?
That’s exactly the kind of bull sh*t that put America where it is now. I agree with Ray. I believe they’re attempting to insert Cruz, a Bush/establishment insider into the White House one way or another.
To be clear, I do not trust Cruz, nor do I like him as an individual.
Great. Thanks for your thoughts. I hope Trump takes this approach and goes all in for this “my way or the highway” tactic.
And when he gets counter punched by Ted AND the GOP-e, he can slink back to home like Jeb, Marco, and all the other losers.
Maybe Trump should make a deal with Kasich and change rule 40 to increase the states to 15 and lock Cruz out.
Trump WILL walk into that convention with the delegates needed!!! Heads are going to be exploding but he WILL have more than enough!!!
NO DEAL with Kasich I CAN’T STAND him!!!!
I’ll be honest with you. Considering Americans have been robbed, looted and conned for decades by the yellow bile in D.C., I almost hope the corrupt you’re supporting, pull it off.
Interesting, then if Trump didn't go along, would that prove that he is really an insider as some say it would Cruz, if he didn't go along? No of course not, because.......Cruz!
I only see one problem to this.
You cannot make people vote how you want them to vote.
Trump, the national front-runner, arrived to a half-empty auditorium at the Milwaukee Theatre in a defensive crouch, beaten down by days of bad headlines and growing signs that Wisconsin and perhaps even his best shot at winning the GOP nomination outright was slipping from his grasp.
Or Trump could just give the vp spot to Kasich and amend rule 40-b to increase it to 15 states and lock Cruz out..
