Top Republicans believe Paul Ryan will be nominee
Washington Post ^ | 4/4/16 | Mike Allen

On the eve of the Wisconsin primaries, top Republicans are becoming increasingly vocal about their long-held belief that Speaker Paul Ryan will wind up as the nominee, perhaps on the fourth ballot at a chaotic Cleveland convention.

One of the nation’s best-wired Republicans, with an enviable prediction record for this cycle, sees a 60 percent chance of a convention deadlock and a 90 percent chance that delegates turn to Ryan — ergo, a 54 percent chance that Ryan, who’ll start the third week of July as chairman of the Republican National Convention, will end it as the nominee.

Good point. The guy going up against him is not going to be a pushover. He looks like a formidable candidate who knows all about Ryan’s political duplicity.

" ...Cruz as having been nothing more than a spoiler who faded politically after his betrayal of the American voter."

Nailed It!

Cruz is playing the role of the turd in the punch bowl, deluding the gullible to join the evil in the destruction of America.

More reason why Trump must quit now and pledge his delegates to Cruz!

Funniest post of the day. The guy in FIRST should just cede to the SECOND PLACE candidate. In the real world, it should be the other way around. But Cruz and KAY-SICK want to suck the life out of the GOP.

I’m close enough to the Georgia delegate selection process, and know enough from people who have been at past conventions that there will not be enough Establishment stooges on the ground for that to happen.

Cruz already, and Trump through his newly hired lieutenants will have plenty of resources to fight this off.

These numerous articles may all be pointing to the same source.

cRuz *associate* Amanda Carpenter has (temporarily?) stopped posting selfies, and is now tweeting about Ryan, now....

FWIW, there is a huge GOP power vacuum in Washington. Would love to see Ryan produce some big vision agenda stuff soon.— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) April 4, 2016

Everyone is going crazy about Paul Ryan. Anyone consider what happens when the GOP is suddenly down a Speaker?— Amanda Carpenter (@amandacarpenter) April 4, 2016

Interesting.

Please. Cruz was lucky Texas is one of the small number of states that has runoffs, otherwise Dewhurst would be occupying that U.S. Senate seat today.

Cruz won. Dewhurst was Establishment. Cruz beat Dewhurst in the runoff. It is not a bad thing that Cruz knows the rules and works them to his advantage.

Of course, a second ballot at the convention itself will also be a runoff.

If ever there was a compelling reason for an alternative to the GOP, its certainly now. The party is a train wreck and yet the “engineers” still want to drive it. This would all be hilarious if the country wasn’t in such a mess.

This is why I have been saying that both Trump and Cruz supporters need to think real hard about who they could support as a compromise candidate, someone who can unite the party. Neither Trump nor Cruz is going to be the nominee, you can bank on that. Trump won’t get a majority of delegates and will lose support after the first ballot. Cruz will not get it either, the Establishment hates him. So everyone needs to start thinking about Plan B. It needs to be a conservative and someone who will not piss of the Establishment.

Then you know its set up already to go to third vote if trump does not win the first one and you also know many of the bound delegates are not for who they are claimed to be so will vote different.

You also know how dirty the game is and how much leverage can be put on people to vote a certain way - like “hey look a picture of your child at school,” etc...

Cruz has already taken a club to the Establishmment. Trump just cares about himself. Once he’s in, you will be forgotten.

The Establishment didn't like Goldwater or Reagan, but they had the delegates. The current Establishment doesn't have the delegates.

Look at the YouTube videos of the '76 convention. Those Reagan delegates were NOT going to be flipped.

And don’t forget his behavior makes Cruz the most untrustworthy back stabber in all of the GOPe.
We’re all sure that gets him elected, right?

If they redo Dexter on Showtime, Cruz might make the perfect replacement.

I also love the “a vote for Cruz is a vote for the establishment.” Doesn’t matter the if Cruz or Trumo is the nominee. Once you wade through all the crap being said, these are still the two best chances for us to take America back.

-------

I don't get how Cruz has crossover appeal outside his base. The theory I see is that Cruz will galvanize the base and that is how they win Trump has the ability to get the blue collar Democrats and expand the party.
