Jimmy Kimmels show aired a death threat against Donald Trump made by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, a Trump staffer charged on CNN today.
Jimmy Kimmel To Ted Cruz: If he wasnt Ted Cruz, he probably would be reported and investigated by the Secret Service, Karen Giorno, identified by CNN as Trump campaign southeast regional director, told Jake Tapper.
It should offend every American. This is a presidential race, said the staffer of a GOP candidate who, two months earlier, boasted at a rally, I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldnt lose voters.
This is not a time to be joking about the front-runner and essentially running him over and causing him harm or death, Giorno continued.
Last night, Cruz made his first visit to Kimmels ABC late-night show. He followed a guest who had showed viewers how to scare a pal on April Fools Day by taping a photo of Donald Trump to the back of the pals car, covering the back-up camera. Said Cruz, when Kimmel asked if he liked President Obama or Trump better, If I were in my car and getting ready to reverse, and saw Donald in the backup camera, Im not confident which pedal Id push.
This afternoon, Cruz communications director Alice Stewart told Tapper, It was a joke, on a late-night comedy show, adding it was no surprise the Trump team is going to focus on this.
CNN contributor and GOP strategist Ana Navarro counseled Giorno that the country will not get through this election cycle that Trump has done so much to plunge into a cuckoo crazy phase without the help of humor and liquor, so lighten up.
This is not the kind of humor we want, responded Giorno. My candidate has Secret Service protection for a reason. There are people out there that are out to physically harm him, OK? So what were talking about, another presidential candidate talking about backing over him with a car thats not funny.
Heres Cruzs threat: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmI6JQz2M10
LOL. No he didn’t.
Let me be clear, I should note. It is striking that Ted admonishes Trump for the supposed atmosphere of violence in his campaign, yet, at the same time advocating violence against Trump.
I realize it was not a death threat, and that Trump’s reaction is absurd. However, it was also a stupid and immature statement from Cruz, and far from his first one.
Maybe our candidates have never been any better than this. However, in the past, they didn’t have 24/7 media presence, in addition to the utterly brainless Twitter.
“So backing a vehicle over Trump, which would likely kill him, is your and Cruz idea of humor?”
He never actually said he would though.
Ted Cruz just issued a statement: “Donald Trump making threats on TV in front of millions of viewers against my well being has no place in this election. It just shows Donald doesn’t have the right character to be commander in chief. And leave my wife and children alone”.
I’m about ready to throw my hands up on both of them. It’s gotten embarrassing.
Both Cruz and Obama embrace the same kind of ‘humor’: the kind that isn’t at all funny, but which appeals to their most blindly devoted fans. When anyone not sufficiently committed to the candidate points out the lack of genuine humor, the attacks start.
Trump made no issue of Fields until she filed her charges. You are aware she falsely accused Alan West, possibly costing him his seat?
Vote for Bill ‘n’ Opus!
I used to have a bumper sticker that said, “Don’t blame me: I voted for Jean-Luc Picard.”
No, that wasn’t it. It was, “Picard for President: Make It So!”
Led to an amusing exchange with a non-Trekkie lawyer when I was on the jury panel for a big murder trial.
I guess it’s no big deal since Beck hadn’t been charged for his stabby harangue.
It’s a sick excuse for ‘humor’. A joke should be funny. How is even suggesting he might back straight over Trump funny?
Nobody laugh!
This is a serious matter!
We must find out who stole the strawberry ice cream!
I just see this as a little payback for all of Cruz’s faux outrage every time Trump says or does something controversial.
You give them too much credit.
And Ted Cruz criticizes the violent tone coming from the Trump rallies?
What is the difference?
Captain Trump: Ahh, but the strawberries that’s... that’s where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist
Fortunately he couldn't lead an old horse to a feed bag let alone lead a movement.
You can call your candidate any name you want...
...but you will not ridicule Trump, for mercy sake.
Is this what FR has come to?
Calling a man like Trump who is working his heart out....an offensive name.
For shame!
Cruz never threatened murder. He merely said he would have to choose which pedal to press. He never said he’d back over Trump. And, my God, people, it wa a JOKE. Have a little perspective.
By “either of the gerbils,” do you mean Trump and his over-reacting staffer?
