Why I Support Donald Trump
The Federalist ^ | 03/29/2016 | Timm Amundson

Posted on 03/29/2016 6:52:15 PM PDT by MaxistheBest

Since I consider myself a traditional conservative, many friends of mine, on both the Right and the Left, are puzzled by my unwavering support for Donald Trump.

Their bewilderment is understandable. Trump is often rude and obnoxious. His demeanor can be arrogant and dismissive. At times, he comports himself as reckless and willing to lash out prematurely, prior to fully understanding all of the facts at hand. To put it simply, he is a “wrecking ball.”

Still, given all of this baggage, I have my feet planted firmly in Camp Trump. But why? How can a principled, pragmatic, deliberate conservative be drawn to such a candidate? It is because I believe conservatism doesn’t stand a chance in this country without first delivering a very heavy dose of populism.

Populism Versus Conservatism

Populism, at least Trump’s version of it, is a platform built largely on the principle of economic nationalism. It focuses on three primary policy areas: trade, defense, and immigration.

He has no chance against the Ds without Cruz supporters.

You People cannot win without us. Show me a model that disproves this and I’ll gladly join your parade.

America is doomed with Trump. He has no chance alone.

This is an important read I think it’s pretty succinctly sums up why conservatives are supporting and should supportTrump

He might make it without Cruz supporters, but with Cruz supporters he would be nearly unstoppable.

Makes one wonder how such a negotiation could be carried out.

Everyone would completely back Trump if he stopped being a jackwagon.
As someone who's lived within Trump's blast radius much of my adult life, I can say with confidence that he will never stop being a jackwagon. You need to back away from him yesterday.

I’ll bite. Y’all stop stomping the guts out of little old ladies who like Cruz.

I have maintained for months that Trump is not my first choice, but I will crawl a mile through broken liberals to mark the circle next to his name if it is there in November.

But you’ll never win without the rest of us. Talk trash and cuss out the little old ladies at America’s peril.

All I care about is our beautiful country. I ain’t married to none of the candidates, but you will suck wind without the Cruz supporters.

Show me a model that proves me wrong. I dare ya.

This doesn't include the Trump voters who usually don't vote or who never voted before.

If you're depending on those people, be prepared to weep on election night. The Rump will be lucky to get 35% of the women vote. You CAN NOT win with those kinds of numbers.

Never happen. Trump has pissed in the well and I cannot figure a way for him to reconcile and bring Cruz in.

To my great sorrow.

Nope, I'm on the Trump train.

Then bring your cryin' rag on election night if (God forbid) The Rump is the nominee. He will be dog meat in November.

His upside is that he's great buddies with the Clintons, so all kinds of great deals will be cut.

He will be dog meat in November.

As if Cruz has a chance. That's a hoot.

Outside of religious nuts, his appeal is limited.

Obama will stay in DC for at least 2 years while his youngest completes high school. Whomever the GOP nominates has to be able to handle this. No current member of Congress has what it takes.

I absolutely agree with you, and I wish more conservatives would see Trump in this manner. Cruz cannot win the general electon, regardless of polls 7 months away, he does not have the support to win swing states. Trump has proven he does. Please, we need to band together to stop Hillary, put aside aversion to Trumps mannerisms and give the man a chance. He has already succeeded against all odds.

We see all these posts on FR, claiming that Trump cannot beat Hillary.

Without the mainstream media running interference for the addled old bag, ANYBODY could beat Hillary!

I'm a Cruz supporter, but would not dream of voting for Hillary over Trump or, just as bad, staying home and giving Hillary a vote by default.

And if you are entertaining doing something so demented, then you need therapy. Seriously.

My thought was support for Cruz positions in the platform and a position like atty gen or SCOTUS down the road.

I agree Cruz has said he does not want to be VP and I don’t think that would be the best place for a senator either.

Possibly head of the committee to vet immigrants and monitor the mosques?

I have never not voted.

As I have said over and over, this November I will crawl through a mile of broken liberals to mark the circle next to the R.

Too many have sacrificed and died for me to just say no. I will be there.
