Trump on Brussels: Told you so. Cruz joins front-runner in focusing on Muslims in America

When the world awoke to news of terrorist attacks in Brussels, the only two remaining Republican presidential candidates with any chance of winning the nomination outright responded by stoking public fear and calling for action against Muslims.

Donald Trump didn’t wait to consult with the foreign-policy advisors he announced less than 24 hours earlier, instead dialing into the morning shows to condemn the attacks that, he said, serve as further rationale for some of his most controversial ideas, from closing America’s borders to allowing the greater use torture in the war on terrorists.

[snip]Not to be outdone, Ted Cruz, called for limiting the flow of refugees “from countries with a significant al Qaida or ISIS presence” and for heightened patrols of Muslim communities in the United States. "We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized,” he said in a statement.

If you can get past the snarky opening it's not a terrible article that briefly summarizes all five candidates' initial responses

of course, I like Trump's response best

I’d much more prefer not letting them in the first place rather than focusing on them.

Donald Trump Finds New City to Insult: Brussels
By DAN BILEFSKY and CLAIRE BARTHELEMY

LONDON — He incensed Paris and London by saying that some of their neighborhoods were so overrun with radicals that the police were too scared to enter.

He raised Scottish tempers by threatening to pull the plug on his investments there, including his luxury golf courses, if British politicians barred him from entering Britain.

Now, Donald J. Trump has upset the already beleaguered people of Belgium, calling its capital, Brussels, “a hellhole.”

Asked by the Fox Business Network anchor Maria Bartiromo about the feasibility of his proposal to bar foreign Muslims from entering the United States, Mr. Trump argued that Belgium and France had been blighted by the failure of Muslims in these countries to integrate.

“There is something going on, Maria,” he said. “Go to Brussels. Go to Paris. Go to different places. There is something going on and it’s not good, where they want Shariah law, where they want this, where they want things that — you know, there has to be some assimilation. There is no assimilation. There is something bad going on.”

Warming to his theme, he added that Brussels was in a particularly dire state. “You go to Brussels — I was in Brussels a long time ago, 20 years ago, so beautiful, everything is so beautiful — it’s like living in a hellhole right now,” Mr. Trump continued.

They would do themselves a BIG service if they stopped the stupid generalities about “banning Muslims” its emotive, nebulous nonsense.

Rather, announce you will institute an immediate strict travel ban for anyone carrying a passport from any of 25 countries of the Mid East, North Africa and South Asia. End present refugee and family reunification nonsense.

Every time I hear a politician say “we are not at war with Islam” I cringe. Kasich’s response started this way. We need someone who understands Islam is at war with us.

TRUMP: ‘PAMELA GELLER IS JUST TAUNTING THEM’

People are blind to trust someone who blamed the victims of Muslim terrorism. I may not agree with everything she did, but after two Muslims tried to attack an event in Texas, excusing what they did is terrible.

Trump called this months ago. Let’s see what happens next. Obama, should have cut his trip short, but he is too stupid to do it.

Earlier today there’s a thread here “Cruz Bashes Trump Following Brussels Attack” and now he’s once again firmly planted on Trump’s coat-tails.
Man, that cono can turn on a dime, huh?

He reminds me of the speaker in the book 1984 lambasting Eastasia, then someone whispers something to him, and he carries on lambasting ... Eurasia—without missing a beat.

While Obama goes to play ball, one poster on FOX site noted how the POTU candidates responded.
Hillary: "Barf, barf."
Cruz: "It's Trump's fault."
Kasich: "My father was a mailman."
Trump: "Let's get rolling."
(I forgot what was said about Sanders)

"We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods

An allusion to the fact that there exists, in this country, strongholds of islamic no-go zones. Why are they not patrolled and secured already? And what is with empower? We already have the power to enforce are laws, I used to think so anyway.

Ted Cruz is reactive. He always has been.

Donald Trump is proactive. He always will be.

We need a proactive president to keep us safe.

It was taunting them. However, in a good way the taunting brings things to a head. It brings the violent out into the open faster for law enforcement to deal with them.

Also, Mr. Trump seems to have learned more about Islam this past year. Perhaps he will voice the reality that Islam is a domination ideology seeking to bring into submission all nations and cultures. Per Islam, this attack in Brussels is defensive because Westerners in general and Brussels in particular are offensively attacking Allah and Islam by not submitting to Islam.
