Former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has died at the age of 46 after fighting cancer, his family has said. Mr Ford, who battled drug and alcohol addiction, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2014. He gained international notoriety after admitting smoking crack cocaine in 2013, but he was loved by supporters. "A dedicated man of the people, Councillor Ford spent his life serving the citizens of Toronto," his family said in a statement. He could not run for re-election as mayor in 2014 due to his cancer diagnosis, but won a city council seat in a landslide result. His image contrasted sharply with Canada's usual calm, buttoned-up politics.

RIP
“A cultural passing.”
Shocking. He was so young.
Party on, dude......................
Wow. Very, very sad.
Along with Stephen Harper gave me a brief glimmer of hope that perhaps Canada was not a lost cause.
RIP.
Try showing at least a little class. The guy had a family.
Yeah, I came to learn that Ford was actually a level-headed guy. Made some missteps in his life, but who hasn’t?
I guess you never saw the movie, “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure”........................
RIP.
A colorful character in a grey toned town.
Seriously. If some detestable Lib like Nancy Pelosi or Michelle Obama were to drop dead from some horrible disease, I’d like to think we’d show them a little human decency and respect for their families.
I will want to see how people up here will deal with it. I would not hold my breath if I were to go to the CBC or Globe and Mail’s site and comments section and see a great outpouring of respect and sympathy. Yet these same people back in August 2011 not only deified Jack Layton, but anyone who really knew him and dared to questioned the big circus that the grieving instantly became, they threatened and shouted down big time.
So young. So sad.
None of us should fall for the tempter who says, “party with us, we’ll give you an IN” What they give you is a trap.
The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. (Tyrell, Blade Runner).
He apparently enjoyed life with great vigor. RIP
I'm guessing the afterlife no so much.
“Party on, Dude!” is a reference to the movie Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure, where the phrase was used as a greeting and a farewell in a future society......................
Well, he had a lot of fun.
Prayers up for him and his family.
46 is too young, even for a crack smoking mayor.
FWIW, his successor is John Tory, an independent who was a Tory. Something to be said for keeping things simple.
