Cruz, Rubio Camps Discuss Delegates
RealClearPolitics ^ | March 18, 2016 | Rebecca Berg

Top political aides to Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz connected Friday to discuss how delegates currently bound to Rubio might be allocated, a Cruz campaign aide confirmed to RealClearPolitics.

Although the conversation between Rubio’s former campaign manager, Terry Sullivan, and Cruz Campaign Manager Jeff Roe was brief and no resolution was reached, the development suggests the two former rivals could be moving toward detente if not an active collaboration.

-snip-

If Rubio does decide to endorse Cruz, the aide said, that decision would likely be reached between the two of them, not among senior aides.

“Marco and Ted are good friends, so the reality is, this wouldn’t be like how other endorsements have taken place,” said the aide to Cruz. “The way this will happen is Marco and Ted will talk, and both of them will let us know.”

Another line of communication opened Friday, however, when Sullivan and Roe spoke by phone to discuss the fate of Rubio’s delegates. They also talked about the state of the race more generally, but did not touch on the possibility of an endorsement from Rubio.

Asked whether an agreement has been reached between the two camps, Roe said no. “We have no agreement … and any suggestion to the contrary is false,” he said. “Maybe it will become true, but that certainly is not the case right now in any shape, fashion or form.”

I am astounded how many people don’t see that the whole exercise is to keep The Cheap Labor Express running.

“More RINO/GOPe collaboration.”

Are you talking about Trump or Cruz? It seems to me, there is very clear evidence that Trump is a RINO, at least the way you Trump-pets used to define RINOs.

There is someone who Trump is very much alike. He was a extremely wealthy businessman who held all kinds of prior liberal positions. And like Trump, the consensus was that he had to be nominated because supposedly he would win and a conservative candidate could not.

Yes. Trump is just like Romney.

Why Trump-pets would not even vote for Romney in the general election but would vote for this testerone-filled RINO as the Republican nominee is beyond me.

I guess the definition of a RINO changed within the last four years....

In the upcoming Rep/Dem debates, Cruz , being the so-called expert debater would be humiliated by Hillary because she won’t actually “debate”...She’ll be down, dirty and vicious...Something Cruz hasn’t the ability to fight...

Trump, on the other hand, will crucify Hillary because he won’t be “professional”...He’ll slam Hillary into tears...

Do the candidates have any say-so in these discussions? Or is it just Cruz’s billionaire owners negotiating with Rubio’s billionaire owners?

Try winning your own delegates, Teddy.

But then again, honor isn’t his strong suit.

That’s cute.

No, genius, I’m talking about Cruz.

You pretty much know that, but decide to launch into the usual shuck-n-jive to run cover for Ted’s active collaboration with the Gope that is becoming more clear by the hour.

Now do you support Cruz’s increasing warm relationship with these people or not? Spare me your bulls*** 4th grade “trmp-pets” nonsense, because it isn’t covering Ted’s butt anymore.

According to my calculations, 104 of Rubio’s 164 delegates would be free to vote for anyone they want on the first ballot after Rubio officially withdraws. The other 60 are bound to vote for Rubio. If Rubio endorses Cruz, almost all of these would go to Cruz. But this is still not enough for Cruz to overtake Trump on the first ballot.

Another 51 of Rubio’s delegates would be freed to vote for anyone they want on the second ballot.

Furthermore, the 50 delegates from South Carolina are bound to vote for the second or third place person if there is a second ballot. A +50 for Cruz and -50 for Trump.

This might be enough for Cruz to overtake Trump.

IOW - If Trump doesn’t win on the first ballot, Cruz stands the best chance of winning the second ballot.

Trump isn’t a RINO...he isn’t a republican, democrat, conservative, or liberal...

Trump is a successful businessman who has seen what desultory “professional politicians” have wreaked on our country...

He is a not a ‘talker” who speaks to hear himself and then does nothing...He talks, then DOES what he says...Unlike any of the politicians that live off Americans and do nothing to help us...

Trumps sees that as America goes, so goes his businesses, so he has decided to do something about it...

If you want to see America great again, vote Trump...

If you want politics as usual, vote for someone, anyone else.....

With few exceptions, these delegates are bound to Rubio on the first vote. This skulduggery would only come into play if Trump doesn't reach the requisite number of delegates outright, which is unlikely.

The other possible scenario is that Rubio formally ends his campaign, instead of simply suspending it as is the current situation, in which case the delegates are free to vote for whoever the hell they want. And since delegates in most states are assigned instead of chosen, there is a good likelihood that many of them don't like Rubio anyway. In any event, they are not his to "release to Cruz." He has zero authority over them.

These talks can’t be conclusive. Most Cruz delegates feel personal loyalty to Cruz while Rubio’s delegates look to DC instead of Rubio. Cruz could deliver, but Rubio can’t, at least not on his own.

“Trump = Romney on steroids”

Oh, how pathetic. Just sad and pathetic.

You got on one day, Cruz people giving Rombot kudos....then you get another group trying to paint him as the “bad guy”, while he is making damn robo-calls for Ted!

You guys dont even know what talking points make sense for day to day.

How is Rubio getting “conned” by Ted Cruz? They were both Senators who, Gang of Eight aside, were generally conservative and agreed on most issues. Rubio certainly is closer to Cruz than Trump politically, and are very close in age and ethnicity. Cruz is the most logical endorsement remaining in the race for Rubio.

Pull this crap, the Trump people will walk.

It isn’t a hard thing to figure out. It’s just a matter of if Cruz is stupid enough to pull it.

Endorse Trump? You don’t think they’d want to actually do something good for America, do you?

Yeah...They fight and totally disagree during the debates and campaigns, but now, they are ‘good buddies”....

It is not Cruz who is coming together with Trump...It is Cruz's delegates...I think Cruz is under the false assumption that his initial delegates will support his betrayal and move to the GOPe...This shows me that Cruz's delegates will abandon Cruz...
