Confab ahead of AIPAC speech meant to improve relationship with congressional GOP.

Donald Trump will host a group of nearly two dozen influential Republicans on Monday afternoon for an off-the-record gathering that his allies hope will improve his relationship with the congressional GOP and the party’s Washington establishment, according to two attendees.

The meeting is Trump’s first major meeting with lawmakers and key Republican figures since last fall, when he met with a smaller group at the Capitol after his speech at a protest against the Iranian nuclear agreement.

Several members of the House and Senate are expected to participate, plus a bevy of consultants and veteran power brokers, the attendees said, requesting anonymity to discuss the session.

No, I am not, and you know it. I am saying that to act as though Trump never “dirtied his hands” in politics is a lie.

Who called the meeting? Just curious. The insiders are not in a position of strength right now. They’re not, and more importantly, they know it.

Surely Trump knows this will not be “off the record”...

I didn’t say anything about moral high ground. I said from a position of power, and actually strength is probably more accurate. Through strength is power.

Do you have a link about how much money he donated to Cruz?

My point is...Trump ain’t lily white...nor is Cruz. Nor is Kasich.

Will they pledge it’s off the record? As if that would mean anything.

Ted Cruz is selling his soul to Mitt Romney, Neil Bush, Lindsey Graham. You have no problem with that?

“Of course Trump will not be asking for money.”

At some point I’m guessing Trump will start asking for money - or at least accepting it. Including from the GOP if he gets the nomination. Pretty sure he won’t run a billion dollar presidential run on his own. Nor should he have to.

Context...

“Donald Trump called this morning,” McConnell said. “Had a good conversation. And I appreciated his call. And I took the opportunity to recommend to him that no matter who may be triggering these violent expressions or conflicts that we’ve seen in some of these rallies, it might be good to condemn that and discourage it no matter what the source of it is.”

Ryan’s staff on Monday said that the speaker had talked with Trump and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) about the Republican party agenda over the phone. Ryan plans on speaking with all of the Republican candidates.

If Cruz talks to “the Establishment” it’s bad. Bad I tell you. That’s one dirty man.

If Trump talks to “the Establishment” he’s a unifier.

Neither of these men are bad men. Please stop with the vilification.

To many it is a ‘reasoned’ argument to hurl insults at the Cruz campaign for letting in characters such as Neil Bush, Mitt Romney, Lindsey Graham, John McCain, Elliot Abrams and so many others, to control it and use as a tool to stop Trump. It makes no sense and is now filled with hypocrisy.

We do not know yet which influential GOP members will meet with Donald Trump at AIPAC but if it should be people like Jeff Sessions, Newt Gingrich, then the character of the meeting is far different than the character of the new influences in the Cruz campaign.

Ted Cruz has lost something of extreme value; trust. A lot of people that others may chastise for hurling insults at his campaign are hurt at what he has done recently. Many who were denying his recent motives are now facing them and it is not pretty.

My take is this. Ted is out of money. The PAC pledges are soft and are conditional. They can be withdrawn at the drop of a dime. His supporter’s hard money has been scarfed up by the awful people he has hired to run his national campaign.

He had to disclose the GS loan so that he could pay it off with what hard money he had before it was taken by his campaign management. Now to keep his campaign going, he has to bow before the establishment including making apologies to those he fought against. He’s trapped and can no longer be himself because he needs the money. He’s in debt and he can’t pay without bowing before those who want to stop Trump.

It was reported (but may be untrue) that he tried to get Donald to guarantee a SCOTUS appointment or some other spot but it did not pan out. Now it may be that Donald offers to retire his debt and bring him aboard in some capacity but it’s too soon. Trump needs 1237 and may not need Cruz to secure those 1237. But if delegates are needed, I see Trump as cutting a deal with Cruz. But Cruz may be too far gone by then.

All the above is ‘reasoned thought’, it is observation. It is not based on insults.

He has unfortunately changed. That is the reality.

Try to understand difference between “talking and discussing” versus getting endorsed by Mitt Romney, Neil Bush & Lindsey Graham. I am sure that is not above your pay grade.

Plus it appears Cruz is running out of money.

Trump is bankrupting Cruz.

Oversimplified, no comparison. Cruz goes way back, he was closely connected to the Bush dynasty and before that he was involved in other politics. Compared to what Trump created, Cruz has made a living doing nothing. Zip.

Nice try though.
