Trump to huddle with influential Republicans in D.C.

Confab ahead of AIPAC speech meant to improve relationship with congressional GOP.

Donald Trump will host a group of nearly two dozen influential Republicans on Monday afternoon for an off-the-record gathering that his allies hope will improve his relationship with the congressional GOP and the party’s Washington establishment, according to two attendees.

The meeting is Trump’s first major meeting with lawmakers and key Republican figures since last fall, when he met with a smaller group at the Capitol after his speech at a protest against the Iranian nuclear agreement.

Several members of the House and Senate are expected to participate, plus a bevy of consultants and veteran power brokers, the attendees said, requesting anonymity to discuss the session.

Hello,

Cruz's many private meetings with Trump... bet you stopped supporting him right there. What a hoot.

I trust that Trump is aware that this meeting will NOT be off the record, no matter how off the record it is supposed to be.

Hopefully, it will be something like, “nice offices you have. It would be a shame to lose them.”

In his stump speech---and I've watched the entirety of each one on YouTube---his lead-in to talking about deals is talking about the Iran deal (the 150 billion dollar deal.)

He describes how he would have handled it: get our prisoners released years ago (by explaining to them it's in their best interest, and if they don't agree, walk, and double or triple the sanctions until they return prisoners), on the front end, THEN when the Iranians want to go back to the table, go there and tell them, sorry, but we don't have any money to give you. We're already 20 trillion in debt. We can't and won't give you a cent.

My point: Trump says he'll talk, he's glad to, with the Dems. Negotiate with them. Make deals to make things happen. But I think that HE is thinking deals along the line of how he'd handle IRAN. People shouldn't assume that Trump---like all the previous Republicans---will CAVE immediately when he meets with Dems. If anything, he's showing respect for the Founders' concept and plan for separation of powers and balance, that the Commander and Chief can't operate like Obama---by fiat. BUT...but...Trump will make "deals" that accomplish his promises: make America great again; rebuild the military; build a wall and make Mexico pay for it; tear up all trade agreements; repeal Obamacare; etc etc.

That didn’t even make sense on my end. It would on yours since you think Trump is so bad, and Ted is so wonderful.

LOL

So is realizing who you have to work with to get things done, and persuading them to facilitate your goals.

Hence my biggest problem with my preferred candidate: Cruz has the doctrine exactly right, but no experience making it work short of government shutdown (which is a fair/desirable option but unlikely to work out well in practice).

Trump isn’t perfect, but he’ll get more good done by far.

Wasn't it just last week that Paul Ryan called Trump? And Trump said he has also had a phone conversation with McConnell...

After The Iran Demonstration, Sessions and Trump met, there was not problem then, why should there be a problem now?

We know Cruz is an ‘insider’ or he wouldn't be a Setting Senator from Texas, how do you think he got there, by the ‘Angel Moroni’?

Trump has never been in politics, so why not let him talk to people, he is going to be our next POTUS and Cruz already has shown more of the ‘elite’ politician than he wanted to, with all the super packs, special interest groups, CFR, Goldman Sachs, TTP (which him and Ryan worked on together); The TPA, being associated with Glenn Beck; Graham; The Bush Crime Family who is heavily connected to the Clinton Crime Family...so where's the problem?

None that I can see, at least Trump is up front and honest about it, more than you can ever say about ‘Lying Ted’...

I find this interesting, don’t you? After all, many here have been...well let’s say it...brutal on Ted for being an insider. Now, Trump is going to “get up close and personal” with all the Insiders. Hmmmm...

Simple rule.

When Cruz does it, it's bad. When Trump does it, it's good.

If it wards off a third party effort, it seems like at least worthy of a conversation.

I sure don’t see anyone else shying away from meetings.

Look at all the talk of defeating Trump. Are those comments being made by people on the right?

Ted met with the Bushes and Kasich for one such meeting.

Do you think Donald is asking them for money in return for influence?

It’s also AIPAC, don’t you think the subject would be how to pull together influential friends of Israel? Wouldn’t that be a different crowd than Neil Bush, Romney, Graham, McCain, etc.?

Hello,

Great job not answering my post.

BTW... I do not think Trump is so bad. or that Cruz is so wonderful. I miss very much the days when reason and thought where here, not just High School level taunts. However, that has been missing for months.

When you are meeting the establishment from a position of power it is not selling out. However, when you bring on establishment to be an integral part of your campaign with the clear intention of stopping the frontrunner for your own gain, that is a sellout. Big difference.

Makes perfect sense. Cruz gets elected senator, thus he's an insider. If Trump gets elected, it's because he's not.

LOL.
