Trump The Hypocrite: Investing Overseas Fine For Him (Outsourcing)
Forbes Magazine ^ | Stuart Anderson

Posted on 03/10/2016 11:37:37 AM PST by AmericanInTokyo

Donald Trump’s appeal is said to be his straight talk. But when it comes to international trade, he sounds like a hypocrite, the classic “Do what I say, not what I do” politician.

While bashing companies for investing in foreign countries, Donald Trump’s own company has shown no inclination to invest and build only in America. In fact, a significant percentage of his company’s hotels and major real estate properties are located abroad. “Mr. Trump is either inexcusably hypocritical or inexcusably ignorant of economics,” according to Donald J. Boudreaux, a professor of economics at George Mason University. “There is zero economic difference between, say, a U.S. car company’s investments abroad in factories and Mr. Trump’s own investments abroad in hotels: both are meant to improve the bottom line of companies headquartered in the U.S. by taking advantage of profitable economic opportunities outside of the U.S.”

UAW is an anomaly. Half of all cars in the USA are made by non workers. 90% of all manufacturing in the USA is done by non union workers.

As a result of China’s flooding the world market with cheap, state-subsidized aluminum and our president’s irrational aversion to fossil fuels, a 127-year-old American industry is in danger of disappearing. Alcoa announced that it was halting smelting operations at its Intalco Works (583 employees) and Wenatchee plants (428 employees) in Washington state, its Massena West plant in New York (500 employees) and that it was curtailing alumina refining capacity at its Point Comfort facility in Texas.

Obviously you have been asleep the last however so many years. Why do people pay more for any “designer label” on an article of clothing that can be “knocked off” shortly after it has been seen by some sweatshop somewhere and sold at a small price. Why does China have millions of imports all over the world of FAKE products that are so close to the genuine article that it is hard to tell the difference? How many handbags are sold that look like the real designer piece as just one instance? Americans are LABEL CRAZY! WHY do we buy Articles which HAVE THE LABEL ON THE
OUTSIDE FOR ALL TO SEE? Simply because for some reason it is a “Status Symbol” to wear Gucci, Armani, Chanel, or any of the others. Do you wear shirts with an alligator embroidered on the left pocket?

The primary goal of a businesses is not to help American workers

True, and it is a citizens right to vote for leaders that will invoke protectionist policies including tariffs. All's fair. It is not a citizens duty to support government that puts foreign and international interest above their own.

I am sure corporations think prols having the right to vote really sucks.

I don’t have to look around. I certainly would never accept someone else’s opinion. I make my own decisions!
I’ll give YOU a few to think about though. How about Trump backing REAGAN and EVEN WORKING ON HIS CAMPAIGN? How about the FACT that Trump has contributed MORE to Republicans than Democrats? Seems you’re the one who needs to extract your head.
AND i would imagine I’ve been voting Republican a helluva lot longer than you have.....probably before you were born!

Uh....no. Another bald-faced lie from the Trump camp. Trump donated more to Democrats by a margin of 4 or 5 to 1. It’s on record. But nice try.

And nice (albeit asinine) try playing the ‘age card’...lol. Hilarious!

Actually its to Trump’s credit that he stays in NYC as a resident and pays their ridiculous taxes

Do you know where Trump files his taxes? He also has a residence in Florida.

I'm also curious where his corporation(s) is based. Is it located in a foreign country to avoid U.S. taxes?

The liberal press could have a field day with this kind of thing - after Trump gets the nomination.

That's true, but that was not what the article was about. And there is even a tie manufacturer in New York. Now had the professor talked about that instead of the ignorant comparison of hotel building I would have had to agree, but he didn't.
