GOP establishment creeps toward Cruz
POLITICO ^ | March 9, 2016 | KATIE GLUECK

Republican elites are begrudgingly embracing Ted Cruz—and hanging Marco Rubio out to dry.

Panicked at Donald Trump’s dominance and dismayed by Rubio’s continued inability to do anything about it, some top Republican power brokers are turning to Cruz, putting aside their policy and personal misgivings to back the candidate they now openly label as their best hope to stop Trump’s GOP takeover.

“He seems to be the only guy who’s got some momentum, and is probably the best situated if there is anybody out there to beat Trump,” said Austin Barbour, a prominent Mississippi-based GOP operative. “That’s why there are many people like me—Ted Cruz wouldn’t have been our first choice, but as we go through the process, we’re reevaluating our vote, and he seems to be the guy at the top of the list.”

“Most people now think Ted’s the best vehicle to defeat Trump,” said Charles C. Foster, a Bush family loyalist from Houston who served on Jeb Bush’s national finance team. “I would say some are enthusiastic for Ted, some are just saying, ‘OK, Ted’s not my first choice, but anyone that can beat Trump, I’ll support.’”

He has failed to vote for TPA and Corker, for starters.

Funny one.

‘The GOPe now has a dilema between two candidates they hate.’

Exactly. It was a tough call for them. But they chose the lesser of two weevils.

Oh wait. I already posted that joke here. But the thought of the Establishment supporting Cruz has got to make them feel like eating one, doesn’t it?

Well IMHO Trump is the only candidate running that will not implement some form of amnesty and with amnesty comes ten of millions of new Marxists voters which means the constitution republic of the USA is dead. Dead dead dead, so I will be voting Trump. I will never vote for a globalist that wishes to dissolve the USA to make a North American Union. Cruz wife authored the plan to do just that. Cruz is a globalist and is owned by the globalist donor class.

They also don’t plan on helping Cruz all the way. Some speculate that the Establishment might switch-and-bait him out at the convention.

And I predict that if Cruz wins the primary, they will sabotage his general election.

I wouldn’t start getting into personal qualities of the candidates’ wives. You’re just avoiding the personal qualities of your particular candidate. Which is pretty easy to do, because Cruz has none. Unless being a smarmy, oleaginous a-hole counts as a personal quality.

If the GOPe throw themselves at Cruz’s feet, that will secure the nomination for Trump. They don’t see that they are why Trump is in the lead. Blind fools.

I think you see Cruz and Heidi through a very dark lens, but Trump is the most capable of the two. So I agree with your decision.

BTW, according to Carry Okie Heidi opposed the globalists. She was there to run interference.

And Carry Okie is not just some guy with an opnion. He himself ran interference against Agenda 21.

And get this, Heidi Cruz was active in Claremont McKenna’s Republican group, but was asked to resign after spying on Bill Clinton’s campaign for reelection.

I like Cruz. I always thought if I like a candidate, it's a kiss of death for him or her.

Compared to the establishment, I'm a piker.

The Republican establishment's endorsement is positively radioactive. Looks like Trump for sure now.

‘The [Establishment doesn’t] see that they are why Trump is in the lead. Blind fools.’

Hahah!

Right. I’m also seeing this as an opportunity to hopefully soften stubborn hatred of Trump.

This forum is up in an ivory tower.

I was shocked when I talked with someone who ‘lives in’ Facebook. It made me think of the Matrix. Someone deeply plugged in.

Social media censorship is taking its toll on people. But the good news is that clear pro-America messages cut through the BS and unplug them from the Matrix.

There are a number of posters here, most good conservatives that sadly refuse to open their eye when it comes to Ted Cruz and the lies he tells. He lied about wanting to legalize the illegals, he lied about his support of TPA/TPP, he lied about Hedi role as a CFR member, he lied about not knowing he was a Canadian etc, etc, etc. They want so badly to believe Cruz is what he claims to be they buy into the lies.

‘Of course you would take a bimbo over a strong woman...just like your Trump.’

I’m not voting for a woman. Are you?

“Remember Megyn Kelly making widdle Donnie Wonnie run like a sissy up to his ‘No Girls Allowed’ tree house?”

Megyn Kelly not only tried to sabotage Trump, she also sabotaged Cruz. Remember that? I’d trust Trump’s wife over her in a heart beat.

Megyn Kelly is a backstabbing drive-by. Trump’s only problem with her is that people are generally slow on the uptake.

Why should Cruz waste time with felonies that are long past the expiry date and weren’t Hillary’s in the first place when we have her own, newer, far more serious, felonies to campaign against? I’m looking for a serious criminal indictment to come down after the Democrat Convention, but before the election. Ouch. I have no idea how they will play this. She may be free on bail during most of the campaign season.

Cruz will take care of Hillary in due time, never fear. Right now his job is to secure the nomination. I reckon he will have taken care of this initial task before the California primary, which he will win, BTW.

This is going to be something to see. I love it!

cruise is the obvious choice for GOPe over Trump. First, he would lose the general to hillary, which is preferable to winning with Trump. Second, cruise losing would be a giant conservative black eye. Win-win GOPe.

You nailed it. Winning the White House is far less important to them than keeping control of the GOP cash machine. In fact it may be preferable. If there is a Republican president people will expect them to actually solve problems. With Hillary they have an excuse for business as usual, and a handy tool to blackmail conservatives into reelecting them.

All the effort and money to defeat Trump is not being saved to defeat Hillary. The party leadership has its priorities.

The Elites will not permit a President who they do not control, who cannot be bought. They are confident that Hillary can be controlled, so it's preferable that she win, than Trump does.

That they seem to be getting behind Cruz is telling us something.

... and is probably the best situated if there is anybody out there to beat Trump,” said Austin Barbour, a prominent Mississippi-based GOP operative.

Part of the same team that committed similar treachery in Mississippi to get Cochran re-seated instead of the Conservative Chris McDaniel.

Notice how they're changing the tune a little and not saying Cruz is the best bet to salvage what's left of the GOPe? They know that a Trump win will require some positive changes in who the RNC/GOPe does business or they are done - he scares the crap out of them and they would rather see Hillary in the WH than Trump (sadly we have some of the same type morons here on FR).

thank you for having more intellectual integrity than most trumpeters by conceding that Cruz is also not an establishment candidate.

We disagree on our first choices, but cheers to you FRiend.
