Kentucky House Up For Grabs? Been Dem since 1920!

GEORGETOWN, Ky. (AP) — The fate of the last legislative chamber in the South still controlled by Democrats is in the hands of a few thousand Kentucky voters in four House districts scattered throughout the state.

Those voters will choose four state representatives Tuesday in a series of special elections created by resignations and two strategic appointments by new Republican Gov. Matt Bevin. Democrats have 50 members and Republicans 46 in the Kentucky House of Representatives, where Democrats have held the majority for nearly a century.

A Republican sweep would mean Democrats would not control the chamber for the first time since 1920 and hand Bevin a trump card as he tries to push through $650 million in state spending cuts.

We elected Matt Bevin last year to start getting our fiscal house in order. He submitted an aggressive budget in January.. it's been sitting in the House, collecting dust. As long as the Democrats control the Ky House, nothing will change. Let's GET OUT THERE AND VOTE.... and switch this thing.

Thanks.... It’s sure to be very low turnout for these races.... Just a FEW Republicans could turn these seats.

Two of the open seats already were Rep. We just need to hold, and turn the other two.

Unfortunately I can’t vote because I don’t live in one of the jurisdictions with a special election today.

There is going to be very low voter turnout here in KY.

The dem’s played some very nasty ads here in Lexington KY.

We had the Dem to Rep switch in Texas years ago and have benefitted from it greatly.

I got a wonderful E-mail from Donald Trump urging me to vote if I’m eligible. It was paid for by his campaign too.

Heard the same that Trump never asks for money unlike the others.

It’s nice to see in todays politics.

$650 million in state spending cuts.

That's the way to get things done. Defund the left, and they can't come back.

That's cool... Trump is not my first choice, but... stories like this encourage the part of me that believes he will bring COMPETENCE in a way that has been sorely lacking.

All Bevin has done so far is... EXACTLY what he said he would do.

It’s been fun to see.

I’d like to see every state legislature’s rules changed regarding budget bills, in that they must be voted on. None of this not bringing it up BS.

Voting rules ought to change everywhere, from local, to state, to federal.

Got to win all 4 to make a tie, no idea. But we oughta win the majority in November regardless.

DJ, I’m sure we’ve talked about it but I don’t remember, what was the timing and circumstance of the last (only?) GOP majority, was it elected in 1919?
