He and conservatives are just supposed to accept this and let the GOPe have its way?

Yeah, sure. That’s why Cruz called McConnell a liar on the senate floor. And that is also why Cruz single-handedly stopped Rubio and his gang of eight amnesty.
If GOPe does that, Trump will get Cruz to get a summary judgment on his citizenship, and they will run together as a third party ticket, AND win.
Usually third party means spoiler. But if GOPe cheats the voters out of our anti-establishment choice of Trump or Cruz, we will NOT support their pick of Romney-Ryan or anyone else. It is going to be Trump, Cruz, or third party. GOPe better change its ways or prepare for the complete demise of the Republican party.
That's not the real issue - for some he's "too conservative" which equates to the polar opposite of the really hard core left-wingers. To others he appears to be too closely knit with the establishment (hard to keep that "aloof" look when sitting in a Senate chair that is surrounded by a LOT of GOPe folks).
I like Cruz a lot but decided to switch to backing Trump because I believe he has the best chance of actually attaining the WH - if those at CPAC and other RNC/GOPe supporters manage to elevate Cruz by trashing Trump, two things are likely to happen.
1: Those that "help Cruz" will then turn on him because many would rather have a Hillary or Bernie than a stout conservative in the WH.
2: The People will rebel and refuse to vote for Cruz because of the perception/reality that they repeated what they did in Mississippi to get Thad Cochran reelected only on a nationwide basis.
Trump is a joke, a clown, an actor.

Cruz gets proportional delegats in those western states, not the whole thing
