Ben Carson suspends GOP presidential campaign [Four Left In the Race]

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson has suspended his presidential campaign after a dismal showing on Super Tuesday.

Carson was one of the last five candidates remaining in the Republican presidential race. But he was unable to come in higher than fourth place in any of the 11 states to vote on March 1.

In Massachusetts, he came in fifth, with just 2.6 percent of the vote.

According to an Associated Press tally, Carson has earned just eight delegates so far. Frontrunner Donald Trump has 319, and 1,237 are needed to win the nomination.

Carson's full statement is below:

_______________________________________________

I have decided not to attend the Fox News GOP Presidential Debate tomorrow night in Detroit. Even though I will not be in my hometown of Detroit on Thursday, I remain deeply committed to my home nation, America. I do not see a political path forward in light of last evening's Super Tuesday primary results. However, this grassroots movement on behalf of "We the People" will continue. Along with millions of patriots who have supported my campaign for President, I remain committed to Saving America for Future Generations. We must not depart from our goals to restore what God and our Founders intended for this exceptional nation.

I appreciate the support, financial and otherwise, from all corners of America. Gratefully, my campaign decisions are not constrained by finances; rather by what is in the best interests of the American people.

I will discuss more about the future of this movement during my speech on Friday at CPAC in Washington, D.C.

We all like Carson, he’s a good man

Absolutely Right! I believe that when Trump wins the nomination, he should ask Ben Carson to be his Vice President.

SUSPEND can be temporary. He has already suspended a couple of times before....

He might be a smart brain surgeon, but his ability to be a leader is questionable at best.

He is also extremely disorganized. I’d hate to see him LEAD anything.... maybe a post as an advisor....

He will not endorse Trump because he just made a statement condemning Trump.

However, knowing Ben Carson, he could follow that by an endorsement tomorrow. Neither Ben nor Donald are the most stable of men.

Well, Ben Carson was on my Facebook page yesterday totally disavowing Trump and saying he was a bad choice.

Iowa “dirty tricks”??

I see you don’t beat around the bush...you just repeat Donald Drumpf verbatim. Good for you.

but in reality “DIRTY TRICKS”= CAUCUSING!!!

I totally loved him until he pulled that ridiculous scam in Iowa.

But he redeemed himself a little yesterday when he posted against Donald Trump.

A few months ago, when Donald Trump referred to Carson as pathological and compared him to a child molester, Carson had nothing to say. He was completely impotent. And in fact, his numbers tanked shortly thereafter

Cruz can’t handle what the press and libs will throw out at him??

Look what TRUMP, FOX, and gope have done to him....he’s still rockin’ on....

Also, you should go back and look at what the gope did to him in TX during his Senate run..... the PEOPLE prevailed...

Yes, it will give Cruz an advantage because large numbers of democrats crossed over on super Tuesday. I just read the numbers. Big.

If Carson’s supporters are following his lead, they will not vote for Trump.

Now that he’s out, he’s finally saying what he thinks of Trump.

Guess he didn’t forget that pathological thing after all.

Little trumpies keep throwing out that ‘Cruz can’t handle’ line.

I guess they are proud of the way Trump handled criticism at the debate.

Or maybe they are proud of the gracious way Trump handled questions from Megyn Kelly.

Those short fingers had a tweet fest after that.

Cruz would have a better impact. Must beat Clinton.

It's a Trump/Cruz ticket

Let's get going, we got work to do!

I hope Cruz doesn’t bring up the suspend thing. Hahaha.

But, actually Carson has kinda moved over to Cruz now.. At least he said Trump was a very bad choice.

Well good. Carson voters wiil likely gravitate to Trump and some to Cruz. I would think Cruz’s dirty trix will send most of Carsons people to Trump.

Yes, he lives in Florida. That’s where his staff told CNN that he was going — home to Florida — to get a change of clothes and was not campaigning in the next primary. As a retired neurosurgeon with a nice nest egg, that’s a much nicer place to retire than Baltimore.

I have to disagree with you there. To lead a team to perform brain surgery on trauma patients and other special procedures involving life and death situations requires a degree of organization and ability to coordinate IMHO.

RE: A few months ago, when Donald Trump referred to Carson as pathological and compared him to a child molester, Carson had nothing to say.

He had something to say which showed a lot of class -— Just pray for him ( referring to Trump ).

RE: And in fact, his numbers tanked shortly thereafter

There is no cause and effect relationship between the two. His numbers were never high to begin with.

So if it comes down to Trump and Clinton, what do you do? Not voting is what cost us the election for 2 cycles now to Obama.

I think that’s a very small compartment where he is an expert, not a huge apparatus where he’ll have many MANY employees to manage.

He can’t even manage his campaign.
