... But Colorado plays a relatively minor role in nomination contests in either party.

Sad that there still are circuses posing as caucuses.
Is the entire state as looney left as Boulder?
I think I heard that Colorado doesn’t count, at least for GOP delegates. I thing CO refused to make their delegates legally bound to vote for their pledged candidate. Therefore, the GOP dumped them. I may be wrong, but I’m hearing that CO is a state that Rubio will win, but it will be worth no delegates.
The Colorado Republican caucus is worthless. Only some delegates are selected that might do something later.
No, the entire state is NOT as loony as Bolder. There are some strong republican/conservative counties but not enough of them to sway the state in a general election.
When an election looks as though an ‘undesirable’ candidate might take an election, they re-draw district lines.
Voters used to get together to vote out someone who might be a problem at the local level..ie tyranny. They would discuss who they should vote for, and then vote as a block. The corrupt officials didn’t like that, so they redrew the lines so that couldn’t happen, again.
I was there. I witnessed the officials deciding where to redraw the lines, and why. I waited on that table and heard it ALL.
Colorado is VERY corrupt.
All they’re doing is choosing unbound delegates. No straw poll or voting.
Potential for states like these in a brokered situation. 37 at stake.
E.g., go to the national convention and vote for Ron Paul, like they did last time. Paulistas were laughing about how easy it was to pack the caucuses and lie about who they were supporting.
Can’t understand what would cause the increased apathy.
“Aw.man, I thought it was Super WEDNESDAY.”
Mesa County is supposed to be about the most conservative county in Colorado; but you need to stay outside the Grand Junction city limits.
Another problem is that the "conservative" voters don't do their homework and do not know whom they are voting for. In partisan races (where there is an "R" or "D" after each name to guide the uninformed), Mesa County elections are usually clean sweeps for the Republicans. But non-partisan elections (without the "R/D" annotations) have been nearly clean sweeps for the progressives. The District 51 school board and GJ city council are good examples.
matt...... When I moved here in ‘72 the state was a solid red state. It gradually turned purple as the influx of Californians and refugees from the NE migrated here. Boulder is identified as 25 square miles of fantasy surrounded by reality (Boulder County).
There are large portions of the state that are not wacky but they are growing smaller. :-(
I’m from CO and I and my wife are preregistered for tonight’s caucus.
HOWEVER, I’ve been wondering for a long time of what value is our attendance?
Everything I’ve read about the CO Republican Caucus system leads me to believe we’re just wasting our time.
Will our votes count for anything?
Will our votes count for anything?
You might get a warm and fuzzy feeling is about all. I quit the GOOP and an registered as unaffiliated.
The definition of boulder is 34 square miles surrounded by REALITY!!
Since I've been here I've attended three Republican caucuses, and ran one of them. Never again. I've also re-registered Unaffiliated.
Votes at the caucuses are basically meaningless. The only way to have any affect is to get selected to be a delegate to attend the (later) county assembly (which can be a stupifying all-day marathon). This may be of some value if there's a hot contest for County Commissioner or some other local office. If you're a real bear for punishment, you might try to get to the state convention, which is where the most ill-informed Republicans in the state congregate to put people like Dan Maes on the ballot for governor.
They are all too high to really worry about anything. . . .
My rural, conservative county got folded into the same voting district as Boulder. We have 14,000 people in our country and Boulder county has 313,000.
So, we have no representation. I won’t bother going to a caucus under those conditions. We might as well be living in Berkeley, CA when it comes to elections.
The only saving grace is that a mountain range separates us and we don’t have to deal with those people on a daily basis.
The corrupt courts are corrupting our elections.
Thanks, I appreciate your answer.
So, just so I’m clear; If we go tonight, to the best of your knowledge, we will selecting someone to attend the County (or State) ‘convention’ as a delegate, and those delegates in turn will vote for Cruz, Trump, or one of the others?
Are these delegates required to vote for the candidate we choose tonight?
I hope you know the answers, as this seems like a system designed to frustrate the average voter.
