With Donald Trump set for a yuuge victory in tomorrow's Super Tuesday slugfest - oddsmakers see 80% chance of Trump being the nominee - tensions are mounting dramatically within the Republican establishment. As The FT reports, many mainstream Republicans believe Mr Trump would struggle to beat Hillary Clinton and are urgently rallying around their man Rubio with some senior Republicans saying privately that they might consider voting for Mrs Clinton if Mr Trump were to end up as their party nominee as one conservative commentator exclaimed "we are on the verge of a real meltdown in the Republican party."
Trump's lead in the polls over his GOP nominee 'peers' continues to grow...
As The FT reports, while Mr Rubio and Mr Trump ramp up their attacks on each other ahead of the March 1 primaries, Republican grandees and lawmakers are turning to the Florida senator as they become increasingly worried that the property tycoon could lock up the GOP presidential nomination within three weeks.
They fear that a victory for Mr Trump could fatally fracture the party and prevent them from winning the White House in November.
Many mainstream Republicans believe Mr Trump would struggle to beat Hillary Clinton, the clear Democratic frontrunner after her resounding victory over Bernie Sanders in South Carolina on Saturday, given the comments he has made about Hispanics, Muslims, women, disabled people and people who have criticised his campaign.
But, as the following chart shows, it's far too close to call...

Looks like Hannity has turned out to be he most honest one of the bunch.
Hannity was distancing himself from Rubio today. Said he no longer recognized him.
I wish they would leave the party first. Would be better off with them officially in the democratic party. They can spend the next 50 years subverting them instead of us.
Really? How nice of them, so I suppose that means they are opposing the will of the people “for our own good” and not because they think they own the government...
Who would have thought that a NY billionaire would be able to champion America like a normal blue collar or middle class worker.
Everything for the party, not a DAMN thing for Americans.
Trump, douche those bassturds!!!!
Who cares? They are just a bunch of meal ticket hacks as far as I can see.
He should have recognized that sooner.
They hate Cruz more because Cruz is more conservative.
Since when do conservatives not vote for the most conservative candidate?
Also note that we say Trump is a liberal because we don’t believe his flip-flops on amnesty, abortion, etc. are sincere.
I consider myself a far out, right wing, way out on the lunatic fringe conservitive.... But there ain't no way in hell would I vote for billary.....!
I prefer Cruz... I have seen Cruz on the floor of the Senate... I seen him stand there while McPain and McConnell cut him up the back like you wouldn't believe.. Trump is an unknown quality, a crap shoot, but if it's Trump on the ticket he WILL get my vote...
With all of this pressure on him, Rubio must be sweating like a whore in church.
Any of them who would run third party to split the vote of their own party is worse.
They would if they could, but they can’t.
All the good jobs in the democrat party are already taken by the communists.
Just wait until (if) Trump goes all the way....this is going to be a hell of a ride son!!!
If it’s not close, they can’t cheat.
Turnout will hand this to Trump - regardless of what they do.
Next order of business is exposing these ‘donors’ and start taking out GOPe candidates at the local and state level.
LOL...they’ll go down with Hillary and damn good riddance to them.
Don’t forget Talk Radio crowd. We don’t need them.
I imagine a fair share of Rubio/Cruz fans wouldn’t mind voting for Hildabeast when Trump wins the nomination.
Principled Conservatives would rather commit suicide than vote against their conscience.
Their loyalty is to the uniparty not the GOP.
