Why Trump Survived Every Attack from Rubio and Cruz
Newsweek ^ | 2/25/16 | Matthew Cooper

Posted on 02/25/2016 9:27:48 PM PST by Vision Thing

"If he hadn't inherited $200 million, you know where [Donald] Trump would be? Selling watches in Manhattan."

It was Marco Rubio's big moment, the one that was supposed to damage the GOP front-runner. It wasn't a bad line. The zinger illuminated that Trump wasn't self-made. It made him seem like the avatar of New York's worst values--a street hustler from pre-Giuliani Times Square.

Rubio's riposte got a laugh, but that was it. But he administered his blow too quickly, after a dizzying oppo dump of Trumpian facts--bankruptcies, lawsuits against Trump University, hiring illegal workers and so on. Like a hormonal teenager with control issues, Rubio blurted them out so quickly that the fusillade fell flat.

Trump loses to her, according to the same polls.

OMG, are you really this dense?

Do you know how far behind Reagan was at this point in 1980 against Carter? About 30 points!

Head to head matchup polls 8+ months before the general election don't mean crap, and everyone on the planet knows that. Only a desperate, oblivious, propaganda-spewing clod could cite such an irrelevant poll as indicative of anything.

You're grasping at straws while jumping the shark!

If there's any justice in this world, Hillary will be in an orange jumpsuit within the next few months; or her political career will be over. Her negatives are quite high as well, and will only get worse.

With the Revolutionary anti-establishment wave that's building, Hillary has no chance, XX chromosomes notwithstanding.

If Donald Trump gets the nomination, he'll win the general election against Hillary, or anybody else, in a landslide.

They all ganged up and tried their best to destroy Donald Trump tonight, and their best wasn't good enough. It was a transparent, predictable, and desperate effort, and despite all the hysteria and bomb-throwing, it failed utterly.

they both beat him on the Trump University.

I don't see how. The way I see it, it's one lawyer trying to get more money by creating a 'class.' You know how lawyers are, they like to sue deep pockets. I've read comments from people who've bought courses, very similar to dozens of other real estate enrichment courses out there, who found them valuable. Success is what you put into it.

Cruz exposed Trump’s real views on healthcare

real views? same as always. Repeal Obamacare and mandatory insurance requirement. Free competition across state lines, multiple levels of plans (same as what we used to have - from catastrophic only to platinum coverage), HSAs, same social safety net for the poor. The only 'mandate' will be to make sure pre-existing condition folks are covered. What else is to explain? What was Cruz's plan again? on yeah, the same as Trumps: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/ted-cruz-previews-new-plan-to-repeal-and-replace-obamacare/article/2539129 and Rubio's plan? very similar to Trumps but we get vouchers to help defray costs and govt pays for pre-existing: http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/08/marco-rubio-plan-to-fix-health-care-121453

All in all, Trump got bloodied

hardly. How nonsensical is it to attack Trump on his health plan when it's their health plan, too? Cruz and Rubio were stumbling all over themselves with Telemundo. And Cruz's threat to endorse Rubio the amnesty candidate, and his wild accusational rant after the debate was damning (and might have violated Bar ethics, but I'll leave that for lawyers to discuss). Say what you will about Trump, but amnesty candidates are such a non-starter for a conservative that I shouldn't even have to bring up the NBC issue.

Just examine your posts,I am a big Rubio fan,but was very concerned with his childish behavior last night. Cruz is such a liar, and does not listen, started running for President as soon as Sarah helped him win his seat. Another bad disrespectful trait Cruz shows is the way he refers to trump as Donald like he is dismissive of his entire being. He needs to resign his seat and refund the money he was paid.

I have explained how I saw it. If you’re more accurate, that’s okay.

If the whole estate was under water in 1989, which your version seems to imply, then he did buckle down and come up with a great recovery.

How much did you have to drink before the debate? Calm and cool?

I live in the south though, do New Yorkers often become unhinged when they are being calm and cool?

I wonder if he uses adult ADD medication. It might explain the mental crashes, the sweating, the very fast talk . . . the ability to memorize lines and deliver them like a firehose.

If anything, this odd behavior is something that Trump can use against Rubio. Trump attacks Hillary on her health issues, and now that Rubio is showing some health issues, too, Trump should formulate a verbal killshot for it.

Many of the guys we think of with big names, it wasn’t a straight line with them to the top.

Even the smart guys have tough times, even if that’s just a 25% turn around in their fiscal standing.

While you're Googling, google these two strings:

Is Marco Rubio queer?

Ted Cruz effeminate

Yup, Trump is in a strong position, so he is able to use these debates as a general-election platform, despite the remaining candidates biting his ankles on stage.

I admire him in a lot of ways. He is very good at construction and renovation; he doesn’t give up; he is not afraid of risk.

I don’t admire him in a lot of other ways, but..

Regarding this particularly aspect, he inherited the corner office rather than worked his way up to it.

It is a scary place to be, no doubt. He went up, way down and up again.

He definitely did recovery from great debt. How he did so can be judged separately, IMHO, very poorly.

I’m well aware of where Reagan stood in the polls. I was on the phones almost daily for the campaign — and distributing literature, and doing other activities. Some of us knew we were going to win.

The fact is, Trump is behind Hillary and both Cruz and Rubio are ahead of her at this point.

The media will unload on Trump if he’s the nominee — doing the Romney “rich guy” game, talking about the fraudulent Trump University, reminding Donald of hsi donations to the Clinton Foundation (which put him in a parallel position on this issue to where Romeny was on Obamacare), and so many other things. They’ll dig up Carly’s face, Ben’s a child molester, and so much else.

And sicne he starts from behind, it will be a tough hill to climb.

Cruz and Rubio start from ahead. While they’ll get tarred, they showed they can handle it.

Those Trump kids really crap on the notion of the idle rich, trust-fund babies.

Trump is too disciplined. It’s good to see he was able to pass that down to his children.

Maybe in your house it backfired, but not in mine.

Sure it was a tag team. I don’t feel bad for trump, if he was the greatest he would have been able to actually answer them instead of falling back to insults.

I’m not a trump guy - so it was painfully obvious that Donnie doesn’t know where he stands on anything and hasn’t got a clue when it comes to his own plans. Sorry.

Trump can probably talk circles around these guys when it comes to specifics in real estate. He just talks in circles when talking policy.

And Trump did NOT "inherit $200 Millions dollars" !

He "borrowed" ( as in was LOANED ) $1 Million from his father and on that, built a TEN BILLION DOLLAR NET WORTH !

When he father dies, Trump was already a BILLIONAIRE, thanks to his own hard work and vision.
