Which Presidential Candidate Has the Longest Record Fighting for Gun Rights?
Gun Owners of America ^ | February 25, 2016 | GOA

Posted on 02/25/2016 4:32:32 PM PST by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

It's easy to forget the cold, dark days of winter, 2013.

The horrific tragedy of Newtown had touched the hearts of the nation, and every news outlet -- every one -- was blaming the Second Amendment community for what happened there.

GOA was receiving death threats -- not only against us, but against our children. Even Fox News was opining that the battle against Bloomberg's gun control was hopeless, as every news outlet spent every hour of the day predicting that our organization -- and the "gun manufacturers' lobby" [sic] in general -- would be absolutely and totally destroyed.

It was in this context that Senator Ted Cruz agreed to lead a team of senators to defeat every word -- EVERY WORD -- of Bloomberg/Obama gun control.

Working with us, Cruz implemented a brilliant strategy which used the complex rules of parliamentary procedure to send Barack Obama and Harry Reid running with their tails between their legs.

And the Cruz/GOA victory emboldened gun owners to take the Senate away from the anti-gun crazies in 2014 and return it to pro-Second Amendment principles.

Make no mistake: Had Ted Cruz not done what he did, the gun rights community would have been completely demoralized and defeated.

We would have been unable to achieve the electoral victories that we won in 2014, and instead, we would have been fighting desperately to fend off the succession of follow-up gun control measures that Bloomberg and Obama promised.

But that’s not the way history unfolded.

Because of Cruz, the efforts to enact gun registration and gun and magazine bans were stopped in the Senate.

And with Gun Owners of America supporting Cruz' strategy, the liberal media blasted GOA for helping him defeat gun control in the Senate:

He hates New Yuck values.

So do I and tens of millions of other Americans.

As for being a nasty guy, so what? For the swamp known as DC, we need that now more than ever.

Trump is trying to re-write his history on that.

What if the question was “Which candidate is carrying a weapon on his person *right now*”?

;D

Basically that article quotes Trump say he is not in favor of a ban and then says he is lying without much proof.

The author writes what he wants to believe

This is definitely true, I think his sons maybe led Donald to see the light, they are big time hunters and gun rights advocates.

His sons didn’t get their love of hunting from Donald. Ivana’s father in Czechoslovakia was the source of that. Don, Jr said his father doesn’t understand why the sons like to hunt.

As best as people have been able to figure, Donald has been a Life Member of the NRA only since 2014 or 2015. Hopefully, his sons’s views on guns are rubbing off on him.

The “tactical” rifles that we all own today are just that. Semi automatic tactical rifles. They are not assault weapons.

It says Trump is lying about what he supported back then. Everyone knew an assault weapons ban wasn’t about machine guns. But it’s good to see that Trump’s current position about a ban is that he’s against it.

Considering that full automatic rifles (also known as machine guns) are already banned with the exception of a special 4th Amendment waiver for the weapon— there is no need to “ban” them. They already are quite specifically forbidden and have been since 1934.

This is what we used to call being taken to the woodshed..

"the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." Donald and you should research what "shall not" means in the court of law. Then shut up.

“Considering that full automatic rifles (also known as machine guns) are already banned “

That statement is not true

This reply is thanks to the FReeper NFHale:

No, they’re not. Full auto firearms are not “illegal nearly everywhere” - they’re Class III NFA firearms that have to be registered, and you need a 200.00 dollar tax transfer stamp to own or transfer them. They’re completely legal in 40+ states. Similar situation with suppressors (or “silencers”, which is a misleading term).

RE “...banning something that is already banned...”

They’re not “banned”. They’re heavily regulated, and expensive, but they’re certainly not banned, except in a very few states.

We didn’t have Gun Rights until Ted Cruz came along?

__________________________________________________________

Ted Cruz defended Gun Rights before the USSC and won while Trump was donating to the Clinton Foundation and supporting TARP and Obama’s stimulus spending....

FACT.

Prohibitively regulated-— that is to say—”infringed”.

St. Valentine’s Day Massacre— full auto Thompsons. BARs— military grade, MAC-10, Uzi machine pistol....

The “transfer” fee is a bit higher, and requires a waiver of 4th Amendment rights for the item.

Mayor of a major city (a dem, no less) had a collection of real machine guns, so know about what he had to go through to keep them.

They are banned from manufacture so that statement is indeed true.
