Decency for President (Max Lucado)
https://maxlucado.com/decency-for-president/ ^ | February 24, 2016 | Max Lucado

As the father of three daughters, I reserved the right to interview their dates. Seemed only fair to me. After all, my wife and I’d spent 16 or 17 years feeding them, dressing them, funding braces, and driving them to volleyball tournaments and piano recitals. A five-minute face-to-face with the guy was a fair expectation. I was entrusting the love of my life to him. For the next few hours, she would be dependent upon his ability to drive a car, avoid the bad crowds, and stay sober. I wanted to know if he could do it. I wanted to know if he was decent.

This was my word: “decent.” Did he behave in a decent manner? Would he treat my daughter with kindness and respect? Could he be trusted to bring her home on time? In his language, actions, and decisions, would he be a decent guy?

Decency mattered to me as a dad.

Decency matters to you. We take note of the person who pays their debts. We appreciate the physician who takes time to listen. When the husband honors his wedding vows, when the teacher makes time for the struggling student, when the employee refuses to gossip about her co-worker, when the losing team congratulates the winning team, we can characterize their behavior with the word decent.

We appreciate decency. We applaud decency. We teach decency. We seek to develop decency. Decency matters, right?

Then why isn’t decency doing better in the presidential race?

The leading candidate to be the next leader of the free world would not pass my decency interview. I’d send him away. I’d tell my daughter to stay home. I wouldn’t entrust her to his care.

What Lucado has written would apply to the vast majority of political candidates and especially the candidates in this presidential election, not just one of them.

Thoughts?

My first impression would be to tell Lucado to get stuffed..
but I’m thinking that isn’t what you’re looking for.

Sorry, Mr. Lucado - if you’re waiting for a decent man to run for public office in this day and age, forget it.

I’ll settle for a nasty man who upholds at least a few decent policies.

Lucado is right about Hillary. She’s an indecent man.

Was this written in 1992?
1996?
2008?
2012?

If not, why not?

Mr. Max Lucado is not deserving of any derogatory-exclamations such as
"Get stuffed".

Lucado is simply establishing a Safe-height-to-Ride rule-of-measurement which the "leading" Presidential candidates are failing to measure up to.

All the “Decency” talking points are meaningless noise to a voter who’s son is overseas on his third deployment, his grand kids go to a gang infested incompetent Public School, who sees his urban area neighborhood deserving into BLM/drug gang thuggary, has been underemployed since 2008 and is scared to death his employer is going to move his new job to Mexico any day now.

All these high minded pompous lectures fall on deaf ears when voters are looking for deeds, not just more words.

The president will not be dating my daughters...

and he will nopt be knocking on my door to do so...

hes married...

so I’m not looking for a boyfriend for a teenager...

I’m looking for a leader of the free world...someone who will protect those girls from ISIS..

the kid wanting to take my granddaughter to the prom may be decent, but he may not be presidential material...

I’d love to support such a person for president.

But I no longer expect any decency from a nation which has become so indecent, so corrupt and so depraved. If a candidate came along who had the kind of admirable traits and values that I’d genuinely respect, the said candidate would probably be burned at the stake by our demented and degenerate populace.

We have the government that we deserve. And if the nation has become indecent and corrupt and depraved, that can only diminish further the field of potential candidates for office who do have the qualities we should, that we must, be expecting in our leadership.

If you want decency in a President, you’ll need to instill decency in the country first.

As it stands sadly the most decent candidate stands almost no shot of winning.

The Democrats are responsible for this. They poisoned the well by embracing Saul Alinsky and his tactics four decades ago.

Mitt Romney was, by all accounts, a very decent man.
And a LOSER.

As far as I can tell, many Republicans tried decency and were destroyed by the ‘by any means necessary’ Democrats. And still the Republicans refused to fight back. I have not been a Trump supporter, but will vote for him over any Democrat if he’s the other candidate. He is the only one willing to bring a gun to a knife fight......and the Democrats and their lapdogs in the Media know that.

You miss the point completely. Whether you like it or not, the boys who will take out your daughter will emulate the man in the White House. Its human nature.
