Brian Sandoval, the centrist Republican governor of Nevada, is being vetted by the White House for a possible nomination to the Supreme Court, according to two people familiar with the process.

Sandoval is increasingly viewed by some key Democrats as perhaps the only nominee President Obama could select who would be able to break a Republican blockade in the...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday pledged “no action” on any Supreme Court nomination before November’s election, saying the decision ought to be left to the next president.

The White House declined to comment Wednesday for this story. White House press secretary Josh Earnest has emphasized in recent days that the president has not arrived at a short list of potential nominees.

The nomination of a GOP governor — albeit one with a bipartisan record — could break that resolve.

Sandoval met Monday with Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid, a fellow Nevadan with whom he enjoys cordial relations.

A person familiar with the conversation said that while Sandoval told Reid he had not made a final decision on whether he would accept a Supreme Court nomination, he would allow the vetting process to move forward. Another person in Nevada familiar with the process confirmed that the process is underway.

Sandoval could not immediately be reached for comment.

It is unclear how many potential nominees are undergoing White House vetting for the high court vacancy left by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death. Obama was seen last week carrying a thick binder of materials on potential picks to review.

Obama outlined his thinking in a guest posting on SCOTUSblog Wednesday: “A sterling record. A deep respect for the judiciary’s role. An understanding of the way the world really works. ..

This is a leftie balloon to soften up the defenses.

Consider the source if you want to evaluate its veracity.

Zero thinks he’s setting a trap for Republicans, when he’ll actually only hurt them if they go along with such a nomination.

Just FYI. Sandoval is Latino. So if this nominee comes forward, we will be accused of racism and bigotry if his nomination doesn’t go forward.

Sandoval must have a blackmail-able homo background like Justice Roberts if Obama wants to nominate him.

If Sandoval has any brains, he’ll postpone accepting the anal probing until at least November.

Anybody Obama nominates now is a sacrificial lamb, to be destroyed.

GOP shouldn’t publicly refuse to consider anyone, but it’s amazing how slowly senators can move.

That’s the whole point. Offer up a Republican (RINO) and when he’s not considered, Obama’s regime can point out the Republicans for their obstructionism....they’ll say, “We even put forth the name of a Republican, and, in keeping with what they’ve been doing for the last 7 years, they are obstructing the president just for the sake of being difficult, and perhaps racist.”

The weaklings we have in DC better not confirm anyone O’Bola sends down the pike. If they think we’re mad as hell now, they have no idea what a 3rd O’Bozo Supreme would do to us.

I’m sad we showed our hand within an hour of the news of Scalia’s death. How stupid. It is like publishing the ROE on the internet before sending soldiers into the field.

Why shouldn’t this guy get a fair hearing? Surely he has a history, surely the hearings would bring forth more information, and then this could have been put behind us instead of adding another check box on the Election ballot this fall.

If he couldn’t be vetted, then so be it and put it off until after the Election. If he was found to be acceptable, then confirm him. We have just given ourselves no good options IMO. Obama could submit Ted Cruz, and the Senate confirm him, and yet Obama would have won the victory because we would have to back off our indefensible position. How stupid.

Sandoval is aligned with Democrats on some key issues, including abortion rights and the environment. As governor, he has moved to implement the Affordable Care Act, and has said he considers same-sex marriage to be a settled issue.

Therefore, not just "No," but "H*LL NO!!!!"

Oh there are several sources. No question he is being vetted for it. The only real question is how serious is ODimwit.

Of course, per usual, I expect the idiot GOP to be totally outplayed on this.

RINO alert indeed.

He is an abortion advocate. Does he support federal funding of abortion too?
