If He Wins, Do We Stand With Trump?
RedState ^ | 2/21/2016 | Joe Cunningham

It's the million dollar question as we look to the possibility that Donald Trump is somehow the nominee: Do we as Republicans stand with him? Do we circle the wagons? Do we overlook everything in his past and say "You know what? Better than a Democrat."

The answer, for me at least, is decidedly "No."

So now "Principled Conservatism" means letting your emotions over come your reason.

If it was Bush would you vote for him?

Well you stay at home sulking and then see how your vote was never counted and a socialist voter did come out , thus their vote was counted and then do not complain for the next four years if the socialist or the battle axe wins.

Don’t vote then don’t complain as you never did d damn thing to stop the socialist movement.

The problem with your thinking is that the Lyin’ Ryan Congress and Yertle the Turtle Senate haven’t done anything remotely different than if the Marxocrats had total control. My representatives are all Republicans but are absolute scumbags when it comes to their voting patterns. The only reason I’ll vote at all is if Trump is on the ballot.

With Trump gaining momentum after SC, I see a shift in editorials. Writers are now launching a two pronged attack on Trump. 1. The "you'll be sorry" editorial where they admit Trump will win the primary and/or general election, but somehow everything will go down the drain as a result (or the writer certainly hopes so). Call this the sour grapes editorial.

2. The "I'll never vote for Trump" editorial. Typically a pouting tirade showing how they’ve about had enough of this business, and since Trump didn’t have the good manners to fold-up like they predicted in numerous editorials; they're now going to show their displeasure by self destructing. Call this the "I'm gonna hold my breath" editorial.

And the modified number 3, originally "Donald Trump just did himself in" crowd, now represented by:

3: "I used to be hopeful with Trump, but he has now lost me." This is just the "dirty politics" crowd that continue to be frustrated and not having their "gotcha" sound byte moment.

Exactly. I’d take Cruz or Trump, but we’ve been burned too damn many times, and Rubio has already shown us what kind of a man he is with his acts.

Immigration is an existential issue. If our candidate fails or betrays us on it, all is lost, as our country will be flooded with undocumented Democrats. At that point, the country is gone. It’s no longer our country.

I know some will lecture me about dutifully lining-up, but I refuse to be burned again. I’m not going to play the role of Charlie Brown while the GOPe plays its Lucy role yet again.

Yes, you will be voting for president if Your Guy isn't nominated.

No I won't.

You'll be voting for Hillary Clinton, exactly as they want you to. You are her bitch. Like all you other better than thou, oh-so-conscientious a-holes (see Norm Lenhart) who elected Obama twice.

What part of "If I can't vote for Cruz then I'm not going to vote for president" is so hard for you to comprehend? I'm not voting for Clinton any more that a Sanders support who stayed home is voting for Trump. You do what you want. You toss your principles out the window and vote for Bush or Rubio or Trump or whoever is on the ballot. I can't and I won't.

Oh but your highly mighty consciences will be oh-so-clear as you directly usher in the Clinton 3rd Reich.

Now you're just being silly.

I'd love to see Cruz nominated, but if he isn't, I sure as F*** won't ever be a Clinton bitch like all you.

You would actually pull the lever for a Jeb Bush or a Rand Paul? Is there nothing important enough for you to stand up for?

The argument is that a GOP Congress would fight Hillary, while they would have no reason to do anything but go along with Trump’s liberal beliefs. And if you look at what Trump says, it is pretty much what he has said for years - he favors the mandate, doesn’t want people dying in the streets, will take care of people, illegals touch-back at home and then return legally at the head of the line, his partial-birth loving sister would make a great Supreme Court judge, etc.

OTOH, I find it hard to believe ANYONE would be worse than Hillary as President. I suspect even Sanders would be better.

It is likely, if Trump wins the nomination, that I’ll hold my nose and vote for Trump, with the expectation that a D- President would be better than an F President. But I also think the very fact that Trump and Hillary are leading their parties’ nominations is a sign that God is unleashing judgment on America.

Oh I won't be sulking I can assure you that.

You must not think Trump's support is all that great if you're counting each and every vote as vital to his victory.

Laugh line of the week?

No ifs, ands or buts about it.

I won’t. I am not voting this time. First time I’ve ever done that.

That Trump is even part of the conservative equation is a travesty.

Somebody convince me that Trumplestiltskin is not a Democratic plant.

Convince me the result would be worth the effort.

All you know is that he runs off at the mouth, saying things he knows you want to hear -- for now!

He has already said that he will change to suit the situation. Don't you believe him?

Well duh! lol You have summed up what is wrong with conservative politics for the last 30 years when Reagan began serving his lame duck session without a clear successor of the movement. We had hope there for a while with the "Contract with America", but when it got to observing the term limits stuff we got professionals instead. Look around.

Much better to not frame things in terms like: "No new taxes", and then relent. Much better to frame things in terms like: "Well, we will have to see what the situation is and see how best to move forward."

Our leaders can't be trapped by ideological trip wires and get stuff done and take territory. Instead, we keep retreating into a circle and cede territory to the other guys.

By the way, my only respect for Bill Clinton is that he saw the situation politically in '95 and he changed to suit the situation. You know, it worked for both sides, he is still wildly popular with the dems.

Even Obama has learned this and look at his Presidency. It has been spectacularly successful for the libs. They "got it", Elections have consequences. And you still have the ideological liberal purists seeing him as a failed President. Thank God for that.

For crying out loud already, let's figure out how "to win" differently. Let's re-define "winning", single issue voters thinking a vote for President is going to end Abortion or advances in the LGBT agenda are not in touch with reality. They are trapped inside the trip wires in a prison of their own making and find themselves marginalized against all other things that are destroying the country.

Still at least I got off my ass and actually tried to stop the socialist or old battle axe from taking.

Yet Ronald Reagan did all of that

Very excellent points on how people can evolve and also find common ground. In addition, Reagan and Tip O'Neill somehow found some magic for 6 good years too.

Certainly am not going to buy those tactics when "Conservatives" attempt to use them.

If Cruz somehow overcomes Trump to win the nomination, I believe you and every other Trumpster should vote for somebody in the general, even if it is a write-in. Voting is a blessing from God.

Maybe you are not open to persuasion on Cruz, I am certainly not on Trump, but please stay open minded on conservatism, it is more than a feeling.
