It's a Sad Day in Bushville: Jeb's Family and Friends Rally Around Him After He Pulls Out of GOP Race.

Shortly after Jeb Bush announced his departure from the presidential race Saturday evening, brother George W. Bush issued a statement congratulating his younger sibling on his efforts – and for remaining above the fray in an unprecedented election cycle.

"Tonight I talked to my brother and congratulated him on his campaign for the Presidency," the 43rd president said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. "I told Jeb how proud I am of him and his staff for running a campaign that looked to the future, presented serious policy proposals, and elevated the tone of the race. "

The former governor of Florida announced plans to exit the race after he finished a disappointing fourth in the South Carolina Republican primary.

Jeb's voice broke Saturday when he announced his decision to suspend his campaign, telling supporters in South Carolina that "I'm proud of the campaign that we've run to unify our country ... but the people of Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina have spoken, and I really respect their decision."

What, I get snotty remarks just for saying at least Jeb was honest with voters about his positions, unlike RooB.O.? Are you saying he was dishonest, or can you just not suffer one kind word about anyone other than Trump? Jeb is no longer the competition you know.

I’m certain that a year ago, Jeb thought the nomination was his for the asking. Surprise!

I believe you're right about that.

Jeb probably thought that after the GOP nominated moderate McCain in 2008 and moderate Romney in 2012, he would be a natural for 2016.

Jeb, and his donor class of supporters, misread how angry conservatives and the American public in general are at the political establishment.

Little Jebby and the GOPe probably thought, "sure, the right wingers are mad but they are always angry and sooner or later they will come around like they always do". Not this time, we won't.
