It's a Sad Day in Bushville: Jeb's Family and Friends Rally Around Him After He Pulls Out of GOP Race.
Shortly after Jeb Bush announced his departure from the presidential race Saturday evening, brother George W. Bush issued a statement congratulating his younger sibling on his efforts – and for remaining above the fray in an unprecedented election cycle.
"Tonight I talked to my brother and congratulated him on his campaign for the Presidency," the 43rd president said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. "I told Jeb how proud I am of him and his staff for running a campaign that looked to the future, presented serious policy proposals, and elevated the tone of the race. "
The former governor of Florida announced plans to exit the race after he finished a disappointing fourth in the South Carolina Republican primary.
Jeb's voice broke Saturday when he announced his decision to suspend his campaign, telling supporters in South Carolina that "I'm proud of the campaign that we've run to unify our country ... but the people of Iowa and New Hampshire and South Carolina have spoken, and I really respect their decision."

A simple survey of ten thousand Americans would have cost next to nothing, compared to the $100 million you spent on your abortive campaign, and would have quickly shown you what you’ve had to learn the hard way.

I’m certain that a year ago, Jeb thought the nomination was his for the asking. Surprise!

This is an outright lie. Jeb spent millions of dollars badmouthing Trump, lying about him every chance he got, and his SuperPacs did a real job on Trump also. He badmouthed Trump both verbally and in nasty Ads. Jeb got what he deserved, and I don’t feel anything about his leaving the race other than relief. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
