Thousands packed into the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington on Saturday morning for a funeral Mass for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
His flag-draped casket was brought to the church, just a short ride for the funeral procession, from the Supreme Court building on Capitol Hill.
Scalia, 79, died last weekend at a remote Texas ranch. He had spent nearly three decades on the high court. Burial plans have not been announced.
Vice President Joe Biden, former Vice President Dick Cheney and the remaining eight high court justices are attending the service, for one the countryâs most influential conservatives.
Justice Clarence Thomas plans a reading from the New Testament, but there will be no eulogy.
As many as 6,000 are expected to attend the service, held on an overcast day in the nation's capitol.
One of Scalia's nine children, the Rev. Paul Scalia, will lead the Mass on Saturday at the Basilica, which can hold at least 3,500 people.

I agree that it is better that arrogant pos not being there
I am still watching and yes it is a beautiful service
Well, of course, don’t you know how special he is - always the outlier.
Catholic Ping!
The Cathedral would probably burst into flames if he did attend.
In the General Instruction of the Roman Missal incense may be used during the entrance procession; at the beginning of Mass, to incense the altar; at the procession and proclamation of the Gospel; at the offertory, to incense the offerings, altar, priest and people; and at the elevation of the Sacred Host and chalice of Precious Blood after the consecration. The priest may also incense the Crucifix and the Paschal Candle. During funeral Masses, the priest at the final commendation may incense the coffin, both as a sign of honor to the body of the deceased which became the temple of the Holy Spirit at Baptism and as a sign of the faithful's prayers for the deceased rising to God.
Obama’s absence is a good thing. It makes him look petty. The funeral and the church are not desecrated by his presence. And the cleanup for the Sunday Masses can be done by a custodian — no exorcist required.
Not that kind. LOL
Who cares. At least he is not at the funeral.
the polyphonic chanting of the Agnus Dei by the schola was indeed heavenly...
I could not blame them, if they did.
Whatâs with all the smoke? Bugs in the room?
not in the room...perhaps in your brain...
Father Scalia was right on focusing on Jesus and eternal life, while he did touch upon his late father, it was keeping the focus on Jesus.
Just saw Callista Gingrich singing in the choir when they featured the soloist now singing.
That doesn’t look like a golf bag he’s carrying.

a most beautiful rendering of Panis Angelicus...
Very beautiful.
Thought I heard Fox say Ted Cruz was there too.
Prayers for the repose of Antonin Scalia's soul. What a great loss for our country. Prayers for his family for comfort through their grief.
A Catholic Mass is very nice period
Beautiful Mass. Father Scalia gave a fantastic homily. Wonderful music.
