Although the Obamas spent only two minutes at the coffin and portrait, they also met with the Scalia family in private. I am no defender of Obama - and I think he’s a jackass for not going to the funeral - but just how long is he supposed to spend with the casket and portrait?
Exactly. It’s a viewing. You view, give your respects and move on, so others can do the same. This is a nothingburger. Daily Caller trying to gin up controversy where there is none.
Agree.
Timing him with a stopwatch is a tad nitpicky.
” ... but just how long is he supposed to spend with the casket and portrait?”
If he went to the funeral like a normal human being and President of the country, we wouldn’t be debating this, would we now?
It makes no difference if he met with the family in private or not, he's (unfortunately) THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES....and his short shrift in the viewing was the image portrayed to the world (unfortunately) ON OUR BEHALF. HE WAS REPRESENTING US!!!!
Even if he was faking it, he should have taken time to publicly bow or nod his head, clasp his hands together, make some respectful sign or other, wait a respectful minute or two, and then move on.
The Catholics were making the sign of the cross at least, and many folks were wiping away tears.
Obama did the minimum (showing up) and, as usual, he trivialized the highest office in our land...and the greatest county on earth.
He's too "cool" to care, man....and too much of a boorish ass in the presence of the coffin of a much, much better man than he could ever hope to be.

Surely Joe Biden is going to the funeral. That would be protocol
