As Ted Cruz continues to gain on Donald Trump, the billionaire has begun to lash out and dismiss criticisms of his own record as "lies." Today, the Cruz campaign responded to the charge by using Trump in his own words.
"Donald Trump just can't handle the truth," said Communications Director Rick Tyler. "He believes everyone who disagrees with him is lying. But everything Ted Cruz has said is accurate because he's using Trump's own words. If Trump doesn't like what's been said, he only has himself to blame."
Donald Trump at the South Carolina debate said, "You probably are worse than Jeb Bush. You are [the] single biggest liar."
But here are the facts.

“Trumpâs own words.”
“Incredibly dishonest.”
Agreed. Trump trying to distance himself from “his own words” is incredibly dishonest.
you realize that that poster wreaks of Casarean and Hitlerian symbolism don’t you? That’s all we need, a personality cult.
lol ... I can stop reading there ...
Why do all the Cruz posters put the thread title in caps? Are they shouting?
The real question is if Cruz can handle losing. I guess we will see on Saturday.
Cruz said on Monday the âone personâ Trump suggested for the Supreme Court was his sister.
And he has never corrected his statement.
The original title was all-caps.
Lighten up.
The sad thing is that Trump supporters cannot handle the truth.
They get almost hysterical in their defense mode if anyone points out anything negative about Trump.
They will not check it out; they will not listen to it.
I don’t even know what it’s like. Closest comparison might be Obama supporters.
I would believe it more if these were direct quotes with dates. There could be “context and nuance” at play here.
It seems to me that Bill Mitchell's main authority for calling Cruz a liar is Trump himself (plus the zealots who love Trump's crass Alinsky-style tactics). But you ought to re-read Theo's post.
Or perhaps Bill Mitchell happens to believe Rubio's accusation that Cruz was lying about what Rubio had said on Univision. But fact-checking of the transcript of what Rubio had said on the Spanish-language channel confirms that Rubio was lying in the debate when he accused Cruz of lying.
My bottom-line point is that Cruz is being trashed with false accusations mainly because he is a credible Christian--unlike Obama and Trump (and now, even Rubio, I'm afraid). (See Mitchell's snide complaint about "hyper-religious" followers of Cruz.)
Another side issue is that Fox News is afraid of Trump and unwilling to go after him as they certainly could and also pro-Rubio to a significant degree, IMHO. If FNC were fair and balanced enough to cover Rubio's monumentally important Univision statement, for example, it would destroy Rubio and automatically vindicate Cruz--yet again. This would shift votes in a way that would suddenly put Trump in trouble.
Trump is beatable in the nomination process, but only if "evangelicals" wake up to the fact that Trump is a dangerous, socially poisonous phony. (Our nation's Founders--especially our Framers--would be appalled at the contempt that is being heaped on apparently genuine Christians in our day.)
The only thing that Bill Mitchell got right is that Liars lie, they can't help it. Just for fun, I would add that the folks who too quickly believe the liars' lies can't help it, either. They are liars by nature, too.
Maybe before your time, but Trump always reminds me of Captain Queeg from the Caine Mutiny.
I expect him to get out those steel marbles and start rolling them around any minute.
Equivocation. Ted is committing political suicide.
See my #33.
Equivocation. Ted is committing political suicide of his own volition. Amazing, and sad, to watch.
You are right about Fox news. I’m sure they despise Trump but they are being a little skittish right now about going after him.
Maybe they’re afraid he’ll sue them.
Or do nasty tweets about him.
Wow, that was a responsively non-responsive post if I ever saw one.
If Cruz were committing political suicide which he certainly is not, you would start dancing... maybe doing the twist.
