Laura Ingraham, who is a conservative radio host, gave a warning to the GOP presidential candidates that they should stop defending the actions of President George W. Bush because "millions and millions" of Republican voters believe the Iraq War that he got the United States into was a mistake.
During the CBS hosted GOP Republican presidential debate last Saturday night, GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump accused George W. Bush of lying about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction.
"Obviously, the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake, all right?" Trump said. "They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction. There were none, and they knew there were none."
These comments by Trump come just two days before George W. Bush goes out to campaign for his younger brother, Jeb Bush, in South Carolina.
The hosts of Fox News were told by Ingraham that Trump's criticism of Bush was risky, but also a very calculated strategy.
"He's thinking that there are millions and millions of Republican voters who have had the luxury of time to look back on whether the war in Iraq was really a good idea," Ingraham explained. "And all the money we spent, and all the men and women we lost. And I think a lot of Republicans -- the establishment doesn't like to hear this -- millions and millions of Americans probably agree with Trump."
"This was a disaster for the United States," Ingraham added. "We've lost influence in the Middle East; we've toppled dictators who probably had their finger on the dice of what was going to be a flood of tumult. And he's betting that people aren't going to just reject the Republican Party of today, they're going to reject the Republican Party of the Bushes.'"
"If they think they are going to re-litigate the Iraq war throughout the United States in this primary process and that's going to end well for them, I don't think it is."

Biggest blunder in U.S. History.
Does she also believe Bush should have been impeached like Trump and every other far left wing rag does?
....Colin Powell asserts in his new book: “there would have been no Iraq war” had then-Pres GWB and his councilors understood that Hussein did not possess any functioning unconventional weapons. Powell lauded the fact that under Bush “we got rid of the horrific Hussein” government and toppled the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.....
Oh please, Colin......the US hasn/t figured out the fervid Mideast mindset to this day? Its thousand-year-old sectarian internecine warfare was kept in check by strongmen like Saddam and Khadafi. Now these savages are marauding all over Europe.....and are coming here to kill us for what we did in Iraq.
POINTS TO PONDER
<><> Powell never mentions that the conniving Mideast types calculated the advantage of having a superpower in their midst....and they cashed in bigtime.
<><> The US gamely decided to train the indigenous population....it cost us billions and we managed to train 4-5 over five years.
<><> In the US we take them off the farm, send them to boot camp, and in 3 weeks we got soldiers.
<><> The Bank of Kabul where the CIA and DOD deposited billions to finance the war was a withdrawal-only goldmine for insiders.
<><> For public consumption, the US said we went into Iraq to show them the advantages of democracy and to get all warm and cuddly as they embraced it.
(waiting for hysterical laughter to die down)
Remember this Colin? The war profiteering was outrageous. Neocon godfather Richard Perle relaxing in Paris (above the fray-—nowhere near his cohorts plotting in the WH Office of Special Ops) got so rich w/ insider info, he was reported to be starting his own oil company.
<><> One last thing, Colin.....GWB estimated the Iraq strike would cost $50-60 billion.......then an angry Bush fired advisor Larry Lindsey because Lindsay dared to
say the war might cost more like $100 billion.
That was in 2007 dollars.
FAST FORWARD TO TODAY Iraq and Afghanistan today have cost the US some $3 TRILLION....and rivers of young blood. We/re still pouring US tax dollars into those decrepit Mideast countries, and..... as Donald says....we got NOTHING in return.
I wish the argument would be along the lines of the early withdrawal by 0bama for political points. That, imo, should be the starting point for united Republican candidates to concentrate on. But now we’re re-litigating the Bush administration instead of focusing on 0bama’s disaster.
It’s one thing to say the war was a mistake; it’s quite another to repeat the leftist trope “Bush lied” and to blame 9/11 on Bush. That’s what the crazy left does. And that’s what Tramp did Saturday night.
Bush lied. Cheney lied. So did Condi, Colin, George Tenet, Rumsfeld, and many more. It was a shameful time.
The war was a success but we left about 100 years too early. Our forces did a fine job evicting Saddam.
His strategy is to bring in crossover Democrats to vote for him with that nonsense, while trying to hold down Cruz’s vote by reviving the lies about Cruz and Iowa.
The Don is a sleazy character, if you ask me.
A policy of containment against Saddam was better than going into his country and de-stabilizing the whole region, and subjecting indigenous Christians to extermination.
As for Afghanistan, we should have gone in militarily, but only stayed long enough to kill as many terrorists and Taliban we could find in a three to six month period, and then left. No prisoners, no Gitmo, just dead bodies left for the crows as a warning to everyone else: “Do not (mess) with us, or we will be back.”
And everyone, including Saddam, would have taken notice.
Ping!
I supported the invasion into Afghanistan, but Iraq was just wrong and Trump is right. Bush isn’t the only ‘conservative’ who fooled most of us.
Something some of us tried to discuss back then was the FACT that George Bush was using the National guard as his invasion force and put them on several tours of duty in Iraq. This is NOT what the guard is for! It destroyed these young people. Ever wonder why Bush was so pro illegal alien/Cheap foreign labor? As long as he kept plenty of aliens here to do work, our kids had no choice but enlist. Obama is doing the same thing. It’s certainly not the entire reason for illegal immigration/mass immigration, just icing on the cake for the ‘compassionate’ conservatism cartel.
But did Bush lie? There are plenty of people who think he did.
Let’s start with the real reason for going into Iraq under 43. It wasn’t WMD’s. That was just the pretext they used to scare us into going along.
Why did he go into Iraq?
“Hillary Clinton voted for the Iraq invasion. This is ammo against her.”
Add Hillary’s (as Sec St) pulling out of Iraq, gushing and promoting the Arab spring that turned entire countries into scorched earth, left hundreds of thousands dead, and caused the huge destabilizing migration.
Trump will obliterate her with all this.
What a brilliant setup. And people act as if Trump shoots from the hip carelessly and without thinking. They are so wrong.
It was distasteful that he used the hard left’s anti-Bush language.
He could have called it a mistake without the childish liar nonsense.
The war under Bush had its ups and downs. Iraq, the Middle-East, containing Muslim extremism, has all been a disaster under Obama.
I think people forget that post-war events are just as important as war time events. I think Nixon won the Vietnam war and brought the troops home with honor. The post-Watergate Democratic Congress then abandoned South Vietnam.
Today’s messes with Islam are the fault of Barack Hussein Obama. And yes, That is what Donald Trump should be saying.
Did his love and admiration for the Saudi royal family influence him to do foreign policy stuff in their interest, not ours?
Just a question....I don't know the answer.
“I wish the argument would be along the lines of the early withdrawal by 0bama for political points.”
I wish you had seen Trump’s presser today, he talked about that being a big blunder on Obama.
Obama is our biggest blunder. Nothing comes close.
Laura is on target. Good lady
